I am entering my final days as the CEO of Unilever Prestige after 12 years at the helm of this beautiful business. During my final global townhall this week I reminded the teams that a business isn’t just one person, it’s all of us together who make the magic happen - our brands, our founders, our consumers, our employees, our customers, Unilever our mother company. If I could leave any words of wisdom to my teams as I move on it would be these: ⚡ Lead with the standards you expect of others. High performance, dedication and motivation needs to be modelled by everyone. Expect high standards by demonstrating what it means to show up and deliver. Start by never expecting less from yourself and that ethos will spread to everyone you work with. ⚡ Create an ecosystem of happiness within your workforce. A team who cares, who are kind, and who work together are the ones who will win. Care about each other, care about your brand, care about the founders mission and care about your consumer. ⚡ Stay obsessed with the consumer and the market. Being at the bleeding edge of culture has never been more important. Landscapes are changing at lighting speed and it’s important that we are anticipating the changes and are prepared and agile to pivot. ⚡ Remember we are here to build brands for the future. This means never taking short term compromises that may damage long-term health, focus on long term quality growth. Be a business-pleaser, versus a people pleaser and always serve the business and the consumer as THE first priority. Estée Lauder's Shakeup Signals Major Industry Shift 💄 As an ex headhunter, I feel Fabrizio Freda's announced 2025 retirement from Estée Lauder isn't just a changing of the guard - it's a clear signal that the beauty giant may be cleaning house. With CFO Tracy Travis also stepping down, we're seeing a classic case of succession planning in action. From a recruiter's lens these are my thoughts : ▶ Financial performance is king: EL's stock plummeting from $370 to $93 in two years speaks volumes. ▶ Adaptability is crucial: Slow moves into Amazon, TikTok, and Ulta Beauty hurt the company. ▶ Global strategy matters: Over-reliance on China and travel retail backfired post-pandemic. In my humble opinion, the next leader of Estée Lauder will need to be a financial crisis veteran with a keen eye for digital trends and global market shifts. They'll need to balance the prestige heritage of EL brands with the agility of indie competitors such as what Tarang Amin has been doing at E.L.F. BEAUTY . As someone deeply invested in the luxury sector, I'm fascinated by this transition. It underscores the importance of financial performance, even for legacy brands, and the need for leaders who can navigate both tradition and innovation. While sales remained robust, Unilever felt that the brand was not fit for the future. While it was still growing across markets each year, critics argued that the brand’s objectification of women increasingly belonged to a bygone age, and a surge of new entrants meant it was losing market share.   Meanwhile, the marketing team could not have failed to notice the tension between this criticism and Unilever’s focus on purpose and developing a sustainable business that benefits society as a whole, not just its own bottom line. The company entrusted the Axe relaunch to creative agency 72 andSunny Amsterdam. It believed the brand was falling out of step with society. Carlo Cavallone, the agency’s executive creative director, described Axe as feeling "anachronistic", adding that it "didn’t correspond to where culture was moving".  While sales were not declining, the suspicion was that the hyper-masculine Axe narrative was no longer connecting with existing consumers and would not be relevant to future ones. #axe #trending #marketing #marketingstrategy #product #sales #marketgrowth #market #strategy

It also provides a reminder that everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world. I started working in merchandising after a recommendation from a friend during a study break. Sales roles often involve dynamic and diverse challenges, with ever changing natures of negotiations and customer interactions. Helping to achieve sales growth in stores, brings a sense of accomplishment for me. This has motivated me to continue working in this field today! A defining career moment for me was stepping out of my comfort zone after 11 years with my previous company and joining Lindt last year. It’s been a great opportunity for new challenges and personal growth. The best career advice I received is to continuously learn, adapt, and embrace challenges. Control what you can and find passion in your work. If I could give wisdom to my 15-year-old self, it would be to embrace curiosity, be resilient in the face of challenges, and never underestimate the power of continuous learning. Estée Lauder has been struggling for a while now... and in typical US fashion, it's now proceeding to slash 3,000 jobs (up to 5% of it workforce). Of course the stock is seeing a jump in pre-market trading. But will that be enough to revive sales in Asia in particular (the so-called travel retail channel)? Shares have lost about 50% of their value in the past year. Its arch-rival L'Oreal reports FY this Thursday after markets close in Paris. The French beauty giant will probably show continued market share gains. L'Oreal's strength stems partly from its ownership of affordable brands (Garnier, Maybelline) but also pricey ones (Lancome, Yves Saint Laurent).
