What is causing clinicians’ burnout? Contrary to popular belief, burnout is not due to a lack of resilience. Physicians, despite their high resilience, still face burnout. Our guest Wendy Dean, MD, the co-author of - If I Betray These Words: Moral Injury in Medicine and Why It's So Hard for Clinicians to Put Patients First, explores an important issue in healthcare: moral injury among clinicians. The issue concerning moral injury isn't about individual weakness; it's about external factors preventing them from providing necessary care, leading to what is defined as 'moral injury'. Addressing this is vital for the welfare of healthcare providers and the quality of care they provide. Understanding and addressing moral injury is crucial for the well-being of our healthcare providers and the quality of care they deliver. Helping Executives Operationalize Workplace Violence Prevention. 🔸Healthcare Workforce Safety and Sustainability - Operational Efficiency and Quality Consultant | Keynote Speaker | Author | Recovering ICU Nurse |🔸
This used to happen to me. Honestly… this profession is experiencing a severely high rate of trauma. I can’t even tell you how many horrific comments were below this all saying the same thing, me too. If you are a healthcare leader, check on your staff. Don’t know how to do that? There really are tons of experts out here working to help. Creating a safe environment doesn’t have to cost you money, infact if it’s done well, it should be profitable. My prayers and positive vibes are with all those that are struggling like this right now. And the leaders tasked with helping them. #innovation #healthcare #morality #responsibleleadership

Healing the Healers: Prioritizing Self-Care in Healthcare part 1 Have you ever lost a patient that you thought would have lived?? after CPR / Advanced resuscitation??? As healthcare professionals, we've all experienced trauma - both personal and professional. Our threshold for traumatic events varies, but the negative outcomes can be long-lasting and far-reaching, affecting us physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The consequences can be devastating: depression, anxiety, avoidance or hyper-vigilance in resuscitation, substance abuse, desensitization to death, compassion fatigue, and a changed worldview. We are, indeed, the wounded healers. So, how can we take care of ourselves in the midst of chaos? Two crucial avenues for self-care are: 1. Formal and informal debriefs: Let's create safe spaces to process our experiences and emotions, fostering a culture of openness and support. 2. Intentional self-care: Develop a strong support system at home and work, take time to decompress, and engage in physical activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Let's prioritize our well-being, so we can continue to heal and care for others with compassion and resilience. Share your own self-care strategies and experiences in the comments below! _Uju Dora_ERN Am sure you can see what am carrying on my right hand , am off to eat🤗Do same👌 #HealingTheHealers #HealthcareSelfCare #MentalHealthMatters #CompassionInAction #WellnessAtWork #UjudoraERN

It's rough to stand by while a loved one faces a life-threatening health crisis. Healthcare professionals are often laser-focus intensely on the patients, for good reason. But what about the friends and family surrounding them? These “co-survivors” experience immense trauma, fear, and grief during a medical emergency. The good news is, that small actions by clinicians can make a big difference. While your duty is to the patient, there is an opportunity to quickly offer help that extends beyond - to those deeply affected, though not afflicted. Supporting co-survivors has the potential to decrease their anxiety and trauma, foster a sense of support, and help them process the experience in a healthier way. Co-survivors bear witness to suffering in a way many in their lives cannot fathom. But with empathy and understanding, clinicians can lighten their load. With care that transcends the body alone to encompass the humanity in each life touched by illness. Learn more about 10 quick and impactful ways you can support co-survivors in our Sunday newsletter. https://lnkd.in/eJD__ePj
