We had an engaging conversation about 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐢𝐫, 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐦. And, of course, it's the people who truly make World Port Days special. One of my highlights was 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝟗𝟎-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫—full of life and energy. When I asked him his secret, he simply said: "Doe alleen dingen die je zin geven en die zinvol zijn." (𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥). From June 19th to 23rd, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia organized a conference for honorary consuls, attended by nearly 120 Estonian honorary consuls from around the world. On Friday, June 21st, 2024, the consuls visited Tartu, the European Capital of Culture for 2024. The event, held at the University of Tartu's Delta Center, also invited four Estonian small enterprises to showcase their development projects and activities related to the development of a smart and sustainable urban environment, "Smart City". Kaido Lainjärv, Strategy Director of TrackDeep OÜ, introduced the consuls to a development project in collaboration with the Tallinn City Government. The project's aim is to experimentally determine the optimal placement scheme for drone monitoring sensor infrastructure necessary for the creation of Tallinn's U-space. A smart city uses technologies to achieve transportation and environmental goals in an environment with a growing population. TrackDeep OÜ believes that the introduction of drones in urban transportation would help reduce carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions in the urban space, significantly decrease ground traffic congestion, and expedite the movement of goods and people between different parts of the city. A week ago, I had the opportunity to attend and be a speaker at the Opening Conference themed "U-Space & UAS: Challenges and Opportunities in the IPA Area" in the city of Bari (Università degli Studi di Bari), for the SOFTMOVE project. I talked about the initiatives, such as the "Drones Beyond" events, that the DTA is using to promote the use of air mobility. This initiative is part of the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme, co-funded by the European Union, and brings together the minds from Italy' DTA Distretto Tecnologico Aerospaziale scarl, Albania's Autoriteti Shtetëror për Informacionin Gjeohapësinor, and Montenegro's Digital Den. 🎤 The event was packed with presentations and testimonials from academia, research centers, and industry leaders, all showcasing the groundbreaking progress and applications of U-space and innovative aerial services. 🌍 SOFTMOVE is all about fostering cross-border cooperation for sustainable development, especially focusing on helping Albania and Montenegro gear up for EU accession.
