🐟 This is a fantastic example of innovation in the offshore wind industry – and we're one of the organisations behind it. Together with Natural Power and NatureMetrics, we've published a ground-breaking report into the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) survey methods for offshore wind farm developments to replace invasive trawling methods. Over the last 18 months, scientists have compared the results of eDNA and trawling surveys around our Blyth Offshore Demonstrator wind farm. The result? eDNA is not only a valid alternative to conventional fish trawl surveys, but crucially, for marine ecology, it detects a greater number of species. We're now hoping to get acceptance from regulators and stakeholders about using eDNA methods in offshore baseline setting and monitoring. We are absolutely delighted to see the impressive results of this project conducted by Natural Power, NatureMetrics and EDF Renewables UK & Ireland, for which we've contributed Grant funding Our Innovation Grant alongside significant contributions from project partners enabled research into eDNA sampling as a method for collecting environmental data around #offshorewind farms This has the potential to make environmental impact assessments for offshore wind faster, cheaper and more accurate than trawling fish with nets - speeding up the consent process for new projects ⏩ A few highlights from this ground-breaking study: 🔬 More species of fish were successfully sampled with eDNA than with conventional trawling 🐟 Minimally invasive: only small samples of seawater required -> no nets, no trawling vessels, minimal habitat disruption 💠 Interesting patterns of species distribution directly around turbines themselves - areas inaccessible to traditional sampling methods 💸 eDNA sampling has the potential to be significantly cheaper and faster way to collect data for environmental impact assessments - supporting more efficient consent applications for offshore wind farms Want to hear more stories like this? Register now for the offshore wind supply chain spotlight event and find out how we're helping the #supplychain to deliver offshore wind farms across their lifecycle ♻ https://lnkd.in/e_eiKjM2

The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, massively enlarged biodiversity datasets, with more species detected, monitored and tracked using #edna. What a beautiful video! Unlike conventional trawls, no fish were harmed in the monitoring process. It is so exciting to see our tools at NatureMetrics getting the traction they deserve in #offshore #wind, a fascinating sector to be a part of. Thank you EDF Renewables UK & Ireland and Natural Power, as well as Elanora Offshore on the other side of the world in Australia. Let's make it a #justtransition for #nature and #society! 🦈 🐋 🐠 🐟 #windenergy #windpower #offshorewind #windturbines #australia #renewableenergy #renewables #energytransition #energysecurity #energyindependence #biodiversity #environmentalimpact

This is what it's all about - easy to use, quick, and non-invasive biodiversity monitoring at the site level that can be used (at scale) to track impacts and measure the outcomes of nature-positive initiatives 💡 📈 This doesn't stop in the marine realm either, NatureMetrics can help you monitor freshwater 🏞 and terrestrial ecosystems 🌳 too! Robustly monitoring #biodiversity no longer has to be complicated... #naturepositive #tnfd #sbtn #naturerecovery #biodiversitynetgain #naturetech #naturerestoration #esgreporting #esgstrategy #sustainability

Thank you, EDF! What an amazing partnership. The acceptance from regulators and stakeholders is imminent. North America, I am here for you! Not only is our testing detecting a larger number of species, it is also more cost effective! Allow me to present to you how our powerful methods and technologies can enhance your environmental assessment data and allow you to divert budget savings to other project needs. NatureMetrics
