The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has unveiled a groundbreaking proposal for the $5 billion IMO Maritime Research Fund, the Zero Emission Shipping Fund (ZESF). The ZESF ensures transparency and accountability in fund allocation, prioritizing support for developing countries. But that's not all! ICS has also introduced a cutting-edge contribution and reward system prototype that simplifies maritime GHG emissions pricing. Check out the demo here: https://buff.ly/3QISLg5 #SustainableShipping #ZESF #GHGEmissionPricing Spread the word about these innovative solutions for transparent GHG pricing in the shipping industry!

As we are approaching two weeks of intense discussions at the International Maritime Organization during the ISWG-GHG 17 and MEPC 82 meetings, I would like to ask your attention about a very important topic – advancing in the #certificationframework for marine fuels aligned with the IMO LCA Guidelines. This is a vital step towards the maritime industry's goal of #netzero emissions 🌍🚢 I’m very glad to have contributed, together with my colleagues from the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, to the only proposal to the ISWG-GHG 17 touching on this topic (ISWG-GHG 17/3/1). This submission was made in partnership with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and was supported by a strong list of co-sponsors: Brazil, International Chamber of Shipping, Ipieca, RINA, World Shipping Council, and SGMF - Leading safe maritime decarbonisation. The main requests of our proposal include: - Need to refer to certification schemes appropriately in the MARPOL amendments under discussion for the IMO Net-Zero Framework (composed by a GFS and GHG Pricing). - Develop new guidelines and regulations for the recognition of certification schemes. - Establish reporting guidelines for the certification activities - A tentative timeline for this work - in parallel with the development of the IMO Net-Zero Framework. We consider that starting this work stream #now is of great importance, given that the #maritime #energytransition will depend on the use of properly certified #fuels. Don’t you think so? We, at the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, hope this paper receives strong support at ISWG-GHG 17 and MEPC 82. #IMO #NetZero #IMO #Alternativefuels #Certification #ShippingIndustry #ZeroCarbonShipping #ClimateAction Daniel Barcarolo Ratna Nataliani, fernando a gomes da costa, James Corbett Bryan Wood-Thomas Gianpaolo Benedetti Darryl Martin Edwin Pang

Are you prepared for the upcoming EU regulatives in 2024? Recent #SERTICA webinar polls show that the evolving EU regulations can significantly challenge the status quo of the maritime industry. In terms of fuel choices, nearly half prefer standard fossil fuels, even though impending Fuel EU Maritime Regulation in 2025 will impose penalties for the use of fossil fuels. In this recorded webinar, RINA experts introduce the new MRV/ETS requirements coming into force in 2024, and show how you can best prepare for them, using our SERTICA Vessel Reporting System. 🚢🌍 As day one of the IAPH World Ports Conference draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on today’s key takeaways. The message is clear: #collaboration is essential to shaping a shared vision for the #future. Ambitious goals like #decarbonisation shouldn’t be viewed as competition but as a collective call for action, where cooperation drives #progress for everyone. Looking forward to what the next days will bring! 💡 https://lnkd.in/ew2v9vyi #IAPH2024 #maritimenews #ports #terminals #industryinsights #supplychain #shipping

For the next couple of weeks, the maritime industry will have all eyes turned towards the IMO building in London. IMO’s 175 Member States, NGOs, and other stakeholders will convene in order to find common ground and make progress on the so-called mid-term measures, namely an economic measure and a global fuel standard. Bunker Holding is already well underway in supporting clients in meeting the EU requirements, i.e. ETS and FuelEU Maritime, but like the rest of the maritime industry, we fully support global regulation. And with the ambitious target of a 20% absolute reduction by 2030, time is of the essence. Keld R. Demant, CEO of Bunker Holding, states: "For Bunker Holding, it’s crucial that policymakers follow suit and agree on regulatory measures that enable the maritime industry to fulfill the targets laid out in the 2023 Green House Gas Strategy. Although we don’t expect groundbreaking decisions at MEPC82, it’s of utmost importance that the Member States make the necessary compromises and establish the outline of the regulatory landscape that we need in order to be able to make the necessary investments." Bunker Holding has two main priorities: A Global Fuel Standard that sets strict limits on greenhouse gas emissions, thus stimulating the production of alternative fuels; and a price on emissions that can close the gap between fossil and alternative fuels. As part of our strategic initiatives to facilitate the transition of the shipping sector, we will participate in the IMO negotiations as part of the IBIA delegation. #IMO2024 #MEPC82 #GHGStrategy #MaritimeRegulations

"The maritime industry is still working its way through the implications of inclusion in the EU's Emissions Trading System, and must now rapidly start to grapple with the prospect of another regulation: FuelEU Maritime." Writing in Bunkerspot, HFW's Alessio Sbraga, Johanna Ohlman, and Violet O. assess the impact of FuelEU Maritime, which promotes the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels on ships to support the industry's decarbonisation. You can read their article here: (subscription required): https://lnkd.in/ewsNwjwS To discuss these issues, speak to Alessio, Johanna, or your usual HFW contact. #EUETS #FuelEUMaritime #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #MaritimeIndustry #ShippingIndustry

How can one be excited about spending the next many hours – and days – in a closed room with no windows? Well, I am! As MEPC82 concludes on October the 4th, we may not see historic breakthroughs, but the discussions happening over the next days at the International Maritime Organization are crucial. These talks will hopefully lay the foundation for something truly transformative by 2025 with the expected adoption of global regulation of GHG emissions from international shipping. At A.P. Moller - Maersk we believe that in order to transition international shipping, any effective mid-term measure must focus on three key areas: ✔️ Closing the price gap between green and fossil energy sources ✔️ Regulating on a Well-to-Wake basis, ensuring full lifecycle assement ✔️ Securing a just transition for all The World Shipping Council’s #greenbalancemechanism offers a strong model to achieve this, addressing cost disparities and supporting a fair, global transition (Link in comments) While the IMO Member States may not be making history today, they could be setting the stage for it—and that’s why I’m excited to be part of these vital discussions! #giveusachacetochange #allthewaytozero #energytransition
