Green hydrogen developer Meld Energy has received approval from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to construct a £250 million, 100 megawatt green hydrogen production facility at one of our member parks: Saltend in Hull. The project will position the Humber as a centre of excellence for hydrogen, helping facilitate the government’s goals for reducing emissions and increasing hydrogen utilisation. #green #hydrogen #facility #Saltend https://lnkd.in/em3wq895

"There is uncertainty about the immediate utilization of any #greenhydrogen that may be produced, given that the consumer market has not matured and infra-structure for hydrogen transportation is still inadequate. Potential consumers of green hydrogen like the #steel industry may not find the current estimated price viable in the absence of a subsidy or carbon tax. Currently, the cost of producing 1 kg of #greysteel is around $0.32. However, the cost of producing green steel would be $0.5723 using green hydrogen [with Renewable Energy Round-the-Clock], which makes the production of #greensteel 1.78 times more expensive." A new report authored by Sankalp Arpit Associate fellow, Swaniti Global @Sandeep Pai Director Swaniti Global, and Mr. Shyam Murari Choudhary explores if #GreenHydrogen a viable diversification option for state-owned coal companies? Our #analysis shows that #greenhydrogen produced using #solar is currently the cheapest option (Optimistic Scenario). Therefore, coal SoEs should invest in solar-based technology if green hydrogen, out of all the other renewable energy (RE) options considered for this study like wind, small hydro, nuclear and renewable #energy round the-clock (RE-RTC), is to be a part of their #business #diversification #strategy. Clean #hydrogen is a potential game-changer for the U.S. steel industry, writes Hilary Lewis of Industrious Labs in a #Voices article this week. To reach the industry's sustainable potential, however, the government must commit to investing in hydrogen produced from renewable energy, she argues. Read the full story: https://nt-z.ro/4d8eJBm

[Hong Kong's First Green Hydrogen Production Project Launched] Our parent company The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and Veolia are collaborating to develop Hong Kong's first green hydrogen project at the South East New Territories Landfill Extension. By utilising landfill biogas to produce green hydrogen, the project aims to convert waste into energy, with the first batch of locally produced green hydrogen expected next year. Following the Government's Strategy of Hydrogen Development in Hong Kong, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to align with the city’s hydrogen energy development direction. The project, approved by the Inter-departmental Working Group, will commence production in 2025. Located at the South East New Territories Landfill Extension (SENTX), the green hydrogen project includes a production unit, transmission facilities, and a refueling station. Towngas and Veolia will collect biogas from the landfill and convert it into green hydrogen using steam methane reforming technology. This marks the first application of this technology in Hong Kong, with an expected daily production capacity of around 330 kg, sufficient to power seven to eight hydrogen buses for a full day. This collaboration showcases our commitment to supporting Hong Kong's transition to a sustainable and low-carbon future. By pioneering green hydrogen production, the companies are leading the way in driving the city's hydrogen energy development. As we continue to transition to a zero-emission economy, it's essential that we innovate and develop alternative solutions for producing zero-carbon emissions. Scotland is leading the way by encouraging its companies to become the country's first industrial-scale electrolyser manufacturer, and Aqualution Systems Ltd is one of the firms on the ground making this goal a reality. With the potential to become a major player in green hydrogen production, Aqualution is setting out to outperform the current market leaders. “We were asked if we could repurpose our electrolysers to make hydrogen. So, we said we’d give it a go. So far, we’ve been quite successful,” says Nick Meakin, CEO at Aqualution. The recent GlobalData Energy report highlights some of the latest trends in green hydrogen projects, diving into how these initiatives, if successful, could transform our energy landscape 👇 #ScotlandIsNow #Hydrogen

“If we figure hydrogen out, every country in the world could be clean energy independent, but the industry will be killed if only legislation focused on solely green hydrogen is passed,” - Jeff Holyoak. The hydrogen industry could face risks if legislation focusing only on 100% green hydrogen is globally adopted, according to TOMCO and Linde at the recent GAWDA SMC Conference. While green hydrogen, produced from renewable sources, is crucial for clean energy independence, its sole focus might hinder industry momentum and scalability. Concerns have also been raised about regulations like the 45V clean hydrogen production tax credit, which could discourage investment in clean hydrogen by imposing fixed emissions rates. Regulation and technology adaptation are needed to ensure the viability and growth of the broader hydrogen industry, including blue hydrogen production pathways, which could also contribute significantly to decarbonization efforts. #H2 #Infrastructure #HydrogenIndustry #GreenHydrogen #BlueHydrogen #Linde #GAWDASMC2024 #gasworld #GAWDAMedia #Legislation #CleanEnergy #Investment #Growth #Decarbonization
