To achieve this, we must observe and focus on upgrading their ideas, help them during open discussions to upgrade their knowledge and skills, and organize training programs for creativity, mental health, team wellness, and other activities. It's important to keep a genuine approach and appreciate their work and efforts. Creating an environment to learn or familiarize with techniques rather than keeping them in pressurized situations can enhance their overall performance. Imagine a conversation between two hoteliers. One has moved on, the other still in the trenches. Our topic? Weaving mental health and wellbeing into the fabric of hospitality. The industry is notorious for its high-pressure environments, long hours, and often, the thankless nature of the job. But here's a thought: What if we could change that narrative? The former hotelier shared tales of burnout and stress, common yet seldom addressed. The current hotelier nods, recounting similar stories but with a twist. They've begun pilot programs focused on mental health and counselling sessions. The conversation shifts to the tangible benefits these initiatives could bring about. Reduced turnover rates, heightened guest satisfaction scores—because when staff feel good, they perform better. It's not just about providing a service; it's about creating an experience, both for guests and employees. Yet, we both had the same question. Why isn't this the norm across the industry? Hospitality Moment... There's one thing that should be consistent in this industry. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU! Yes, employees matter. Yes, there are moments that you want to scream and holler in the back. Yes, there will be days when you will not want to work. BUT Did you sign a contract with a guest? Did they pay a deposit? Did they spend money that they should have saved? AT THIS POINT... KNOW THAT YOU MATTER SCREAM IN THE BACK/SMILE IN THE FRONT GO TO WORK ANYWAY,SOMEONE IS DEPENDING ON YOU. BE CONSISTENT IN YOUR ACTIONS AND ATTITUDE! IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. IT'S ABOUT THEM. THEY MAY BE RUDE BUT THEY MAY BE KIND THEY MAY BE DIFFICULT BUT THEY MAY BE EASY. DO YOUR PART WELL AND LET THEM BE THEM. JUST A THOUGHT LJ THE HOSPITALITY MAVEN

⚠️ Painful hotel Front Desk employee breakdown Front office receptionists and agents often face the challenge of managing difficult guests who may provoke them intentionally, making it exceedingly difficult to maintain composure and professionalism in such high-pressure situations. Typically, there exists a breaking point, yet this is merely a symptom of a deeper issue. This employee had likely been experiencing distress for an extended period. He attempted to restrain his emotions until he could no longer do so, highlighting the immense stress, frustration, and anxiety he was enduring. The subsequent phase involves his instinct to withdraw; he recognises the gravity of the situation and feels a profound sense of shame, leading to tears and visible anguish, which is truly heartbreaking to witness. It is my sincere hope that his colleagues and management can provide him with the necessary support. This incident could have been prevented, as a breakdown in the workplace should not occur due to the actions of a single guest. Access to mental health support can be transformative; expressing concerns early on can alleviate significant emotional burdens. It requires both courage and strength to possess such self-awareness and to take proactive steps toward addressing one’s mental health. The hospitality industry is not for the faint of heart, at its core the hustle and bustle culture is often glamorized, and long work shifts and operational hours tend to burn out chefs, servers, and managers alike.
