The Nordic Council of Ministers is taking the next steps to deliver on Vision 2030 and plan strategic action beyond 2024. The three priorities – a green, competitive, and socially sustainable Nordic Region – are firmly established overarching goals. In 2019, the Nordic prime ministers adopted a vision that the Nordic Region should be the most sustainable and integrated globally by 2030. This Fast Track publication is a collection of policy brief articles written by Nordic researchers participating in collaborative projects funded by NordForsk or Nordic Energy Research. The articles are original and written in April and May 2023 in response to a NordForsk call for policy brief articles to invited researchers and research groups. 🌎 Our goal is to reach the global #NetZero. But to get there, advancing green industrialization and supporting the diversification of supply chains for low carbon technologies is essential to decarbonize the energy and transportation sectors.   ❗ Despite a surge in technologies like solar and storage batteries, these supply chains are still concentrated in a few countries, limiting the participation of developing countries. Especially countries in Africa have immense potential to lead in green industrialization by localizing mineral processing and leveraging cost advantages for clean energy technology. On February 22nd and 23rd join our Online Conference “#GreenHydrogen: fueling #JustDecarbonization or ‘greening’ #extractivism?”* The role of green hydrogen in achieving a #JustTransition is controversial. While some refer to green hydrogen as a necessary contribution to a decarbonized economy, others point to the multiple #SocioEcologicalRisks associated with its production. In light of these uncertainties, we bring together academics, policymakers, activists and business representatives from #Europe, #Africa and #LatinAmerica to explore the creation of socially just and ecologically sound hydrogen production chains.
