The behavior of change, espically related to climate and sustainability, is complex. But. One thing that is pretty clear is that hope helps. Hope helps you get out of bed and take on the challenges of the day. This article shares that activity begets hope which begets more activity, and so one. So even if straws are a negligible percent of plastic waste, you can make the decision to pass on the plastic straw (and plastic water bottle, plastic cutlery, etc) and give yourself the gift of action, and the gift of hope.

Kathleen Egan Simon Mulcahy The paramount challenge is for today's Homo sapiens aka Homo technicus (or Homo stupidus), to be willing to change and overcome our adiction to the global economic growth model, which is based on endless material consumption and depletion of Earth's finite natural resources. It's the Matrix red pill or blue pill. Are you someone who sees what's happening and does nothing, or someone who chooses not to. Increasingly, I think it's a question of character and identity, not a transactional behavioural choice.
