As stakeholders in the logistics industry seek sustainable solutions that meet customer demands while aligning with manufacturing capabilities and available infrastructure, we’ve taken the lead by partnering with Volvo Trucks, Schmitz Cargobull AG, and bp pulse. Together, we conducted an in-depth trial to evaluate the integration of electric trucks and trailers for long-haul deliveries. During the trial, a Volvo FM Electric truck paired with a fully electric Schmitz Cargobull S.KOe COOL box semi-trailer successfully completed multiple trips for our client, Nestlé, covering a total of 1,500 km. The truck operated under various load conditions, including the transport of refrigerated goods, consistently demonstrating both performance and reliability. We gathered and analyzed extensive data on vehicle performance, energy efficiency, and overall reliability. The results were highly promising, with the electric truck achieving an average energy consumption of 1.35 kWh per kilometer. Thanks to bp pulse's high-power charging infrastructure, downtime was minimized, with each charging session taking an average of just 1.5 hours. Watch the video below for more technical insights:

As stakeholders in the logistics industry seek sustainable solutions that meet customer demands while aligning with manufacturing capabilities and available infrastructure, we’ve taken the lead by partnering with Volvo Trucks, Schmitz Cargobull AG, and bp pulse. As part of our ongoing mission to implement sustainable solutions into our operations, another milestone project was completed. In collaboration with our partners, we performed the first route test with a fully electric truck and trailer unit. 💡 This project stands as proof that with strong collaboration, any visionary initiative can be brought to life. And I don’t just mean collaboration within a team. We’re talking about industry giant here. A joint effort between Nestlé, Volvo Trucks, Girteka, Schmitz Cargobull AG, and bp pulse. What did it take to make this project a reality? ⚡Countless hours of rigorous discussions and coordination to get the ball rolling. ⚡Being present at the scene, ensuring all the puzzle pieces come together. ⚡Going through tons of photo and video material to showcase the journey. Admittedly, it demanded more than the usual number of espressos per day on my part. There were moments of doubt, times it seemed we might not pull through. Yet, with a clear goal and joint effort, solutions emerged. The use of battery electric vehicles (BEV) and electric trailers is an innovative step in decarbonizing the transport. Take a look at the first available testing period of a fully electric truck and trailer done in collaboration between Nestlé, Girteka, Volvo Trucks, Schmitz Cargobull AG, and bp pulse. "As today's world addresses main challenges, one of them especially touches the logistics – it is decarbonization. And here is where Battery Electric Vehicles supported by electric trailers can be one of the solutions," summarizes Viktorija Terekė, Head of Sustainability. This initiative represents a crucial step toward zero-emission logistics, emphasizing the broader impact of leaders’ efforts on the environment. As highlighted by Harry Baxter from BP Pulse in Europe, " In terms of e-mobility being a solution then, so we see that approximately 25% of emissions globally are from transportation. And the fact that electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions makes it an obvious choice." Matthias Fleischer, Supply Chain Director from Nestle points out the progress and hurdles in electrical transport: " Electrical transport has come a huge way when you look from years ago till today because now today we can run ranges up to 250 and 300 kilometres which is much better like it has been years before. Still, the charging facilities we need to improve. We need to find the way how we do the optimal charging and how we do the optimal payload on this one.” The collaboration with partners such as Nestle, Volvo, Schmitz Cargobull, BP Pulse, and Girteka in this project is invaluable. Project JOLT (Joint Operator Logistics Trial) is led by Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (SRF) and partners with Volvo Trucks UK and Flexible Power Systems - specialising in fleet management optimisation software, and provides access to a shared fleet of electric vehicles and mobile chargers. Over a 3 month trial period, high resolution operational data, including vehicle and charger performance, operational efficiency and costs, will be collected during each trial period and then analysed and anonymised.
