I had a great time at the Pixeltree Usabilitree workshop last week. The guys at Pixeltree clearly know their trade, I learned a lot about effective design sprints from that session which we can apply straight away. In my career, I've had the (fortunate?) opportunity to work for tech enterprises which religiously stick to waterfall methods, despite attempts from the tech teams to go agile. Slow processes, 12/18 month build cycles before any feedback and not uncommon for the main stakeholder to have changed their mind by the time it's delivered. "Oh, I forget you were build that - we aren't doing that now... just shelve it". 🤯 Fast design sprints are the key. Involve all the stakeholders, agree a design, test it with stakeholders/potential clients, then the gateway - will this work or not? Not a line of code written. Only a week wasted if it's binned, and lessons learned. What a revelation! I can see why PixelTree are doing so well! It's been a wild week including flying to Las Vegas on a 30 hour notice to support the launch of a project I've been producing for the past 3 months! A dear friend of mine called me up a few months ago saying "I have this wild idea, can you make it happen?" and I said "Yes, I have just the team for this!" so we executed and launched the ApplebyteDao - a decentralized community to connect artists in real life and immerse them in Web3 technology to empower them to share their art globally. Yesterday we launched applebytedao.com and an immersive gallery so art lovers can explore Matthew9Lives' artwork in a real time gallery setting from the comfort of their home. There are SO many future steps to add his audio and poetry work into the experience and whimsical physical products that we'll bring into play over the rest of the year. He took our rudimentary app and, with a designer's touch only he possesses, transformed it into a visually captivating masterpiece. Seven days of grueling work, spontaneous brainstorming sessions, cancelled plans, and coffee-fueled nights later, we had it. Our very first app that wasn’t just functional or beautiful, but profitable. It's been tough, but it stands testament to one fact: when a team is in sync, shares mutual respect for each other's craft, and works towards a unified vision, magic happens.
