Participation in volunteering is an excellent way for autistic people to contribute to the social and economic life of their community, to build their confidence and self-belief, and to thrive in life. Autistic people, through their diversity, can bring valuable and unique skills and experience to the volunteering sector. However, to make this experience positive, we need to firstly understand the barriers to volunteering that currently exist for autistic people and then work together to overcome these barriers. The benefits of a truly diverse volunteer organisation, that includes autistic volunteers, are immense for both the volunteer and the volunteer organisation. Empower Autism and Volunteering Queensland have developed practical tools, tips and information aimed at building the capacity of volunteer organisations to attract, engage, support and retain autistic volunteers. The guide takes you through three steps, each aiming to provide you with simple and practical tools to increase your organisations accessibility and engagement with the autistic community. If you are an organisation jump over to our website and take a look at these free resources to support your autistic volunteers to thrive within your organisation https://lnkd.in/e-YAtTU8 Volunteering Queensland #volunteering #volunteersrock

Do You Volunteer? I often do voluntary service and always enjoy it and get to know many amazing people. Just last week, we helped organize a space for Fundacja Kocham Dębniki an incredible initiative in collaboration with EPAM Systems. Volunteering can positively influence our well-being 🙏 According to research, "Volunteerism is a key form of community involvement that can provide both physical and mental health benefits for volunteers as well as positive outcomes for the community. However, volunteers become involved for different reasons and recent studies suggest that other-oriented volunteers may accrue greater health benefits than self-oriented volunteers" (Stukas, A. A., Hoye, R., et al., 2016). Check it out for yourself 😎 https://lnkd.in/d6gV-Yas https://lnkd.in/dMTkYx2J #Volunteering #MentalHealth #CommunityService #SocialImpact #PersonalGrowth

In times of crisis, volunteering becomes more critical than ever. By offering our time and skills, we can provide invaluable support to those in need and foster a sense of community resilience. However, it's important to recognize that excessive volunteering might be a way of responding to stress. While helping others is commendable, we must also ensure we are taking care of our own mental and physical health. Balance is key to sustainable support and personal well-being. #Volunteering #CrisisResponse #CommunitySupport #MentalHealth

The Ripple Effect of Kindness... Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Part of it is #Volunteering which is rooted in acts of kindness that create a ripple effect, touching the lives of those in need. It reminds us that kindness transcends barriers & speaks to the core of humanity. When volunteers witness the impact of their actions on individuals & communities, they become inspired to continue their efforts. Incorporating stories that highlight the transformative power of kindness can amplify the emotional connection between volunteers & your cause. With a #CompassionateHeart and a #GenuineDesire to help others, volunteers give of their #Time, #Energy and #Skills. People who volunteered with businesses & nonprofit organizations became invaluable resources. It mainly shows that volunteer connections have many additional benefits beyond giving back & providing help This is reminding us that.. 📌 The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others 📌 We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. 📌 I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. This content is encouraging everyone to find something you're #passionate about and keep #TremendouslyInterested in it. We believe in the power of inspiration to drive positive change that are bound to motivate and engage volunteers. Whether you're a nonprofit organisation, a community group, or an individual looking to make a difference, these powerful words will resonate with your audience and help you create a lasting impact. #Volunteers are not paid not because they are #worthless, but because they are #priceless . So Touching right 👍. In the pursuit of inspiring & engaging volunteers, it's crucial to emphasise the importance of purpose. Volunteers contribute their time, skills, and passion driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in the world. By aligning your cause with a compelling purpose, you can attract individuals who share your vision and are eager to contribute their efforts. Passion is a driving force behind every successful endeavour.- This is how to ignite individual's passion. Encouraging volunteers to explore their passions and align them with your organisation's mission can lead to a more fulfilling volunteering experience. This serves as a reminder to cultivate an environment that fosters personal growth and provides opportunities for volunteers to explore their interests. By igniting their passion, you'll create a team of motivated individuals dedicated to making a difference. #ShoutOutToAllPeopleWithPriceless❤️ “ #Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart 💓!” My Dear Friends of Top 100 Filipinos on LinkedIn - Please help me share this with your priceless heart. It is estimated that 14.2 million people in the UK volunteered their support and services through a group, club or organisation in 2021/22 and approximately 1 in 5 people, that's nearly 16% of the population volunteer at least once a month (statistics from Volunteers Week). This 'formal' volunteering comes in many forms; through the Scouting and Girl Guide associations, PTAs, working in charity shops and organisations, to help run food banks, being a Citizen Advice trustee, being a listener or advisor on a help line and many more likewise incredibly value roles. And there are countless more volunteers who perhaps would not even consider the tasks that they perform as volunteering - those who regularly care for members of their community through kind deeds such as shopping, cooking, driving, or offering childcare to those who need support. To each and every volunteer, in whatever capacity we would like to say a huge THANK YOU for all that you do! This week is the 40th year of National Volunteers Week and, if volunteering is something that you've considered, it's the perfect time to sign yourself up! Not sure how to volunteer or what you could do? Here's a few ideas: 🔸 Many businesses actively promote their staff engagement with local volunteering - speak to your HR or management about their environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies to find out more. 🔸 Get on social media and ask! Local Facebook Groups can be a great forum for offering your support. You could find yourself helping to litter pick, mend and repair community areas, or run a tea stall for an event! 🔸 Become a STEM Ambassador! Contact STEM Learning UK to see how you can engage with groups. 🔸 Join the global Repair Cafe movement! Use your creative and handy skills to fix broken items for people in your community. It's a great way to breathe new life into items which could end up going into landfill. 🔸 Be a Bupa Coding Day volunteer! Help the teachers, support staff, and children at your local primary school as they go on an exciting Healthy Lunch-Bot Coding Adventure! To hear more about volunteering your services for our Bupa Coding Days please visit: https://lnkd.in/e9EAxp3n #VounteeringWeek #Volunteer #STEMVolunteering #Volunteering #BupaCodingDay #GWTP #STEMLearning #HealthyLunchBot #CodingAdventures

Psychology Today highlights recent large-scale research that assessed the connection between volunteering and the health and well-being of children and adolescents across the United States. The study presents compelling evidence that volunteering not only benefits those on the receiving end but also significantly enhances the well-being of the volunteers themselves. This large-scale research, involving over 50,000 children and adolescents across the United States, reveals that engaging in volunteer work is associated with higher odds of excellent health, flourishing, and lower odds of behavioral problems among both children and adolescents. These findings are not just statistics; they represent a call to action. At Benefact4, we see volunteering as a critical element of youth development that can foster a sense of purpose, connection, and self-efficacy. By participating in volunteer activities, young people can combat the feelings of isolation and alienation that are all too common in this demographic, thereby building a foundation for healthier, more resilient communities. Sign up at www.benefact4.com to be the first to know about our app launch and receive a special first year offer. We are committed to championing initiatives that facilitate volunteer opportunities for young people and anyone interested in giving. By collaborating with schools, community organizations, and nonprofits, we aim to create accessible, meaningful volunteer experiences that not only serve the community but also nurture the well-being of the volunteers themselves. https://lnkd.in/eutHN8FZ #mentalhealth #wellness #volunteering #volunteers #givingback #psychology

📉 Volunteering Among Young People Declines – What’s Behind the Drop? 📉 Civil Society Media Ltd has published details on a new Youth Voice Census from Youth Employment UK , which reveals a concerning decline in youth participation in volunteering and fundraising through education, dropping from 24% in 2023 to just 17%. The Youth Voice Census shows that awareness of social action has also decreased, with only 31% of young people knowing what social action involves, down from 46% last year Despite these trends, participation outside of education remains higher, however, accessibility issues are a key barrier, with 47% of respondents unable to take part due to various challenges. These barriers are especially pronounced for transgender youth, those eligible for free school meals, and LGBTQIA+ communities 💚Charterpath is keen to help spread the message volunteering is linked to better mental health and overall wellbeing. If volunteering can help build valuable life skills, boost confidence, and nurture a strong sense of community belonging, the importance of fostering an early interest in volunteering is of huge importance 💭 What do you think is driving this decline? How can we encourage more young people to engage in volunteering and make it more accessible? What do you think of when you think of the word "community"? When I think of the word community I think of town, neighborhood, residents, a village. When a community begins to support each other great things happen. How can you support your community? * Shop Local- If we want our community to thrive, it starts with doing business with local business owners and less big box stores. * Volunteer- Volunteering in your community is a great way to show you care *Assist in Your Schools- Not everyone is going to have time for things like PTA, but reaching out and asking how you can help and what do they need goes a long way? *Visit the Elderly- There are many elderly in senior care centers who don't have family that visit. Create cards, or take some care packages. It will make their day. *Coach a Youth Sports Team- This is a great way to mentor youth in your community and give back. #midlandneighborsmagazine #midlandga #community #shoplocal #volunteer #pta #seniorcare #youthsports #nichemagazine #neighborhoodpublication #bestversionmedia

It's important to remember that volunteering not only helps the community but also provides valuable experience for students. Encouraging high schools to include volunteer work as part of their curriculum can make it easier for students to find opportunities and fulfill their requirements. Additionally, partnering with local organizations and promoting volunteer opportunities on social media can help spread awareness and encourage students to get involved. Let's work together to inspire the next generation to give back to their communities and make a positive impact. Have you had success with engaging high school students in volunteering?
