Top tips for championing inclusivity during Pride month...and beyond! 🌈 Be an ally, learn about LGBTQIA+ issues to enhance your understanding and support of the community. 🌈 Examine and challenge your own biases to cultivate a more inclusive mindset. 🌈 Confront discriminatory language or behaviours, promoting respect and acceptance. 🌈 Utilise inclusive language and pronouns to foster a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. 🌈 Listen to LGBTQIA+ experiences and concerns with empathy and without judgement. 🌈 Advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and protect against discrimination. LGBTQIA+ inclusion should take place 365 days of the year. This is why Lifetime Group has its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy in place to make sure we’re always considering the rights and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community when decisions are being made, and to avoid any kind of ‘performative allyship’.

This week, we join the world in celebrating Nonbinary Awareness Week! 🌈 As part of our commitment to inclusion, it's essential to honor and respect all gender identities. So, what does that look like in practice? Here are some ways we can make our learning environments more inclusive: ✨ Lead with your pronouns and ask others how they identify. ✨ Offer gender-neutral bathrooms in place-based learning settings. ✨ Use gender-inclusive imagery. ✨ Model gender-inclusive language. Instead of "ladies and gentlemen" or "men and women," try "guests," "folks," "friends," "colleagues," or "y'all." ✨ Use correct pronouns and accept corrective feedback graciously (no defensiveness needed – it’s all part of learning). ✨ Avoid gender-normed behavior expectations, such as associating colors or stereotypes with binary genders or forming groups by binary gender. ✨ Include diverse narratives in learning materials. Represent all genders equally in examples, cases, and context. ✨ Consider gender equity in characters, names, roles, and occupations within learning content. Remember, gender is a cultural construct. It's a socially constructed classification that changes over time and varies across cultures. Gender does NOT mean biological sex and does not indicate sexual orientation. Understanding and respecting this distinction is crucial for creating inclusive learning environments. When learners feel safe, welcomed, and seen, their engagement in learning significantly improves. By acknowledging and celebrating intersectionality, we can move beyond simply avoiding exclusion and towards actively creating inclusion. Psst...this principle applies to all forms of diversity. Feelgood Friday – Every day is a learning day! This month of June is Pride month, where you’ll see lots of marches, parades and celebrations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. In my role as a DEI specialist, I often get asked “Is it ok to say…?” (e.g. queer) and I respond in a way that supports the individual who is asking. I can see that this person is wanting to do the right thing but is afraid to say the wrong thing. I always preface my explanation with this - if you come with good intent, people won’t mind if you make a mistake. Being afraid of making mistakes or unintentionally causing offence is very common! So if you’re afraid, just ask, with an open heart. (You can also educate yourself, the internet is a very helpful place. And I can help too!) And if you’re the one receiving the questions, please don’t judge, please just help the person to understand. They’re taking their first steps to becoming an ally. The Creative Class ++ [cities human capital] Richard Florida's theory, often referred to as the "Creative Class" theory, posits that cities and metropolitan regions that attract and retain a diverse mix of creative and innovative individuals—such as technology workers, artists, musicians, and the LGBTQ+ community—tend to experience stronger economic growth and development. Florida argues that this "Creative Class" is a key driver of urban economic performance, as they contribute to innovation, creativity, and cultural vibrancy. Florida identifies several factors that contribute to a city's appeal to the Creative Class, including: 1. Talent: A highly educated and skilled workforce that can drive innovation. 2. Tolerance: An open and inclusive environment that welcomes diversity, which is particularly appealing to creative individuals. 3. Technology: Access to technology and a strong tech industry that fosters innovation and entrepreneurial activities.

The power of diversity and inclusion is that it connects us all together as we strive to been seen, heard, and valued for who we truly are. June marks the celebration of Pride and serves as a reminder of all the progress we've made in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights. 🏳🌈 It also serves as a rallying point for us to come together and protect that progress while also working towards an even more inclusive future for all. As we step into Pride Month, I want to take a moment to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community. 🌈 Pride is more than just a celebration; it’s a powerful statement about love, identity, and the freedom to be oneself without fear. It’s about recognizing the struggles, honoring the courage, and supporting the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. As an ally, I stand in solidarity with my LGBTQIA+ friends, colleagues, and the global community. I am committed to learning, listening, and lending my voice to advocate for inclusivity and diversity in all spaces. How can you become an ally, you ask? 😇 There are so many things you can do to be a better ally. 1. Educate yourself. 2. Listen and learn. 3. Be mindful of pronouns. 4. Practice inclusivity when you address the room. 5. Give up those “jokes” that are hurtful to the community. 6. Shame those movies that make fun of the community in a slapstick stereotypical way. 7. Call out discrimination when you see one. 8. Be humble, learn from mistakes, challenge your biases. 9. Support LGBTQIA+ causes. 10. If you are a reader like me, incorporate books by authors from LGBTQIA+ community in your bookshelf. (You can always ask me if you need reading recommendations) And if you are still on the fence about becoming an ally, no pressure. I hope you become one, someday. Till then, be open minded, be supportive. Otherwise, just get out of the way of progress, equality and equity. Let’s use this month to reflect on how we can all contribute to a world where everyone can live authentically and love freely. Let’s continue to educate ourselves, speak up against discrimination, and celebrate the beautiful spectrum of human experience. Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day of profound historical significance and a symbol of freedom and resilience. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth reminds us of the enduring fight for equality and the importance of recognizing and honoring this history. It's a time to reflect on the progress made and acknowledge the work still needed to achieve true equality and justice. As we commemorate this day, it's crucial to also highlight the unique struggles faced by Black members of the LGBTQIA+ community. They endure the compounded challenges of both racial and queer discrimination, fighting for acceptance and equality on multiple fronts. Let’s amplify their voices, support intersectional advocacy, and continue striving for a more inclusive and equitable society for all. As we are all still reeling from incidences of LGBTQIA+ violence and anti-trans legislation in many states around the United States, visibility days are more important than ever - for queer kids who are just figuring out who they are, for queer young adults trying to figure out where they fit in the world, and for older queer adults with joyful or cautionary tales of living in a world not created for them. 🏳️🌈 TicTac Learn celebrates Pride Month 🏳️🌈 Being yourself should be a given for everyone! This belief is as fundamental to us at TicTac Learn, as it is to our clients at RFSL (The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex rights). Unfortunately, discrimination against LGBTQI individuals remains common, particularly in the workplace. To combat this, RFSL aimed to develop a comprehensive LGBTQI training program for employees and managers across various workplaces in Sweden. The result is a set of four training modules that form a holistic program, enabling workplaces to achieve LGBTQI certification. The training has successfully increased awareness of legal rights and fostered empathy and understanding of how discrimination affects individuals both inside and outside the workplace. 🏅To date, 700 companies, organizations and public sector entities have chosen to become certified, enhancing their commitment to inclusivity and equality. 👀 Read more about the case: https://lnkd.in/deXkvDd3 🥳 Happy Pride Month!
