The foundation stone was recently laid in Schipkau, Brandenburg, with operations slated to begin next summer. 🏗️ This impressive wind turbine will stand at a towering 364 meters—almost as tall as Berlin’s iconic TV tower! 🌬️ The project, commissioned by Beventum and developed by Gicon, promises to enhance wind energy yield by 40%, generating twice as much electricity using the same rotor diameter. Adolfo Aiello, our Deputy Director General, delved into the mutual, pivotal role of solar energy for steel and the equally pivotal role of steel for solar energy: "Solar energy is a key sector for the European steel industry, as #steel is both a supplier to and a customer of #SolarEnergy." 📦 As suppliers, every megavolt of solar capacity in ground projects needs 40 tons of steel. Steel stands out as the ideal material for solar project structures due to its durability - lasting up to 25 years or more -, recyclability, cost efficiency and mechanical properties. ⚡ As customers, the imperative for clean and affordable electricity is paramount in driving steel's #decarbonisation efforts. By 2030, our low-carbon steel initiatives will need 165TWh of clean electricity, and 400TWh by 2050. The deployment of solar infrastructure across Europe, alongside with other fossil-free energy systems, is crucial to achieving the 2050 climate targets.
