🔋 Powering the Change 🔋 Belgium is leading the shift to electric mobility with a new regulatory framework for zero-emission vehicle incentives. Since September 2023 a payment for electric cars is available from the government to private individuals, car-sharing companies, and non-profit organisations. New electric cars are eligible for a €5,000 payment, provided the purchase price does not exceed €40,000. For second-hand cars, a €3,000 payment is offered, with an original list price cap of €60,000. Applications for these incentives are open until the end of 2024. This initiative is part of Belgium’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport and reducing emissions. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has launched a new Commercial Direct Air Capture Pilot Prize, offering up to $52.5 million in funding for #DAC Key Details: The new prize supports development of innovative direct air capture facilities with a goal of capturing at least 500 tonnes of CO2 per year. • There's up to $12 million available per winning team • The prize will occur in four phases: Concept, Engineer, Permit, and Operate • It's all part of the larger American-Made Direct Air Capture Prizes initiative Who can apply? ✅ Private entities (for-profit & non-profit) ✅ Non-federal government entities ✅ Academic institutions 📅 Applications for Phase 1 open until February 7, 2025 This prize is a stepping stone to the Regional Direct Air Capture Hubs program, aiming to establish four hubs capable of capturing 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually. What's all the buzz about hydrogen water? Does it even work? We wondered the same thing. So we tried it. Our thoughts... At TBG, we are always looking to improve and that doesn't stop with our health! If you haven't heard about hydrogen water, it's regular water with hydrogen gas added. According to some resources, adding hydrogen gas to the water increases its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It's been touted for its ability to increase energy, slow down the aging process, and improve muscle recovery after a workout. Those sound like the kind of benefits we'd like to enjoy and share with our employees! So, we purchased an ionBottles pitcher for our office. As you can see, Sal Salaita is a big fan. There’s still more research to be done to determine how effective hydrogen water will be in the long term but for now, it’s a simple switch we can make to possibly see the benefits mentioned above. India Aims For 50,000 Electric Buses By 2027 With $390 Million US-Backed Finance Mechanism India aims to roll out 50,000 electric buses on its streets by 2027, facilitated by a joint finance mechanism with the US. At COP28, officials revealed a $390 million fund to guarantee loans for manufacturers expanding electric bus production. With only 12,000 e-buses currently in operation, the payment security mechanism, funded with $150 million from the US and philanthropic groups and $240 million from India, is crucial for scaling up the financial system for electric mobility. The US Plastics Pact has released its Annual Report, publishing aggregated data from member organizations (“Activators”) in 2022. Since its inception in August 2020, the U.S. Pact has seen remarkable growth, more than doubling its membership to more than 135 businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and research institutions.
