We are your embedded emissions! Kicking off today with an inspiring discussion with Heidelberg Materials , SSAB and Miljøstiftelsen Bellona this morning on how to decarbonize the materials sector. Demand for materials like aluminium, steel and cement is growing to build the infrastructure needed for the green transition. But it matters where and how materials are produced, and all production comes with a footprint. Today, these materials represent roughly 1/4th of the world’s carbon footprint, and most of it is still produced using fossil fuels. To get to zero, we need to intensify the green transition of the materials sector. And we need to empower consumers to make climate conscious choices. Electric vehicles, modern energy efficient buildings and renewable power infrastructure only do half the job, unless the materials they are made from are decarbonized.

Would you like to learn more about the role of shipping in CO2 infrastructure❓ Our Senior Climate Technology & Policy Manager for the CEE Region, Michał Wendołowski will be moderating a webinar by Zero Emissions Platform. This webinar will be discussing the challenges and opportunities in achieving a market for CO2 transport by ship, as well as launching the “CO2 Transport by Ship” report. To achieve net-zero targets, industries must significantly reduce their emissions and the shipping industry has a key role to play in delivering industrial decarbonisation solutions. 🛳🌍 Check out the post below for additional details about the panelists and registration information. #CCS #decarbonisation #CCS4NetZeroIndustry #netzero

💡 With the expected deployment of offshore CO2 storage, maritime shipping of CO2 will become a vital part of the CCS value chains. There is an opportunity for ports to combine climate action and a commercial service by acting as an intermediary for the transport of captured CO2 to offshore storage sites. You can learn more about this from the webinar organized by Zero Emissions Platform and Carbon Capture and Storage Association, presenting the report on CO2 transport by ship. Ports2Decarb project manager Michał Wendołowski Bellona Europa will moderate the panel discussion during the webinar. #CCS #ports #climateaction #shipping

One of the biggest CO2 challenges is the maritime sector, the backbone of globalization. Södra is no different, 35% of the emission that we are to half by 2030 comes from sea freight. Last week I shared how our biomethanol can be a piece of the puzzle at the Future Bunker Fuels conference hoted by Göteborgs Hamn AB.

The circular carbon economy will be huge. Linking premium biogenic CO2 sources to CO2 utilisation offtakers is a massive infrastructure ramp-up challenge waiting to happen. I refer to it as "Bridging the Gap". We need efficient and sustainable CO2 transportation for a thriving #ccu industry. Notably... - Transmission and transportation - putting the T into CCTU - Ship, barge, rail and road – transportation modalities for liquid #co2 - Tanks and terminals – the static storage infrastructure - Pipelines or pipedreams - will we see connectivity across continents? - CO2 liquefaction and compression – enables of transport and transmission Interested to know more? My presentation will cover the above themes at the 11th European Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Summit in Berlin in September. Other agenda topics at the conference will include... - CO2 utilisation for #efuels - #directaircapture of CO2 - Biobased technologies for CO2 utilisation and capture - Carbon removal - Investment and regulatory perspectives For more inspiration, take a look at the provisional agenda attached. If you have a presentation relevant to the conference, this is the time to pitch your abstract to at ACI. Many thanks to the team at ACI EUROPE for creating the opportunity for the circular CO2 community to come together again in 2024. And, I will have the honour of being the chairperson for day-2 of the conference proceedings. See you there?

Stockholm sucks. That´s what I learned from Anders Egelrud today, when he paid a visit to the Climate Lab. Anders is the CEO of Stockholm´s energy provider, Stockholm Exergi and plans to "suck" 800.000 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere per year starting 2027 by employing a technology called "bio CCS". By collecting and burning residue from Swedish forests, such as fir cones, bark and sawdust, Stockholm Exergi will produce electricity and heat while capturing the CO2 produced in the process and permanently storing it in the seabed. As alternatively the fir cones, bark and sawdust would have decayed naturally and emitted CO2 to the atmosphere, according to plan, from 2027 onwards, Stockholm will become home to Europe’s first industrial-size plant to generate “negative emissions”. We will need these negative emissions and I applaud Stockholm Exergi for making this bold investment decision and pioneering this technology. The U.N.’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set targets to reduce shipping greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2040, aiming for net-zero by 2050. Shipping currently accounts for about 3% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions, and the pressure is on to meet these ambitious goals. Learn more about how Georgia Tech researchers are helping the maritime industry navigate toward sustainability. https://lnkd.in/eNjqq_6c

Did you know that transport is the main cause of greenhouse gas emissions in France and Europe? Only 100% electric engines can fully meet the zero emissions in use objective. However, around 50% of an electric vehicle's carbon footprint comes from manufacturing its battery. That’s where we come in! By working on both design and production, we aim at reducing our carbon footprint through innovation and optimisation. Our goal: achieve a carbon footprint per cell of less than 40kg eqCO2. Discover now what we are doing on both levers to reduce our emissions, and read the full 2023 CSR report on our website! 👉https://lnkd.in/df9w3BiU
