Today, Christopher Palmer asked an important question on X: Should we abandon the term "treatment-resistant mental illness" and replace it with "in need of referral to another clinician?" The answer is a resounding YES! Mental health care is not one size fits all, and a patient's lack of response to a particular treatment does not mean they are resistant. Rather, it may indicate the need for a different approach or a referral to a specialist. Let's prioritize finding the right care for each individual rather than labeling them as resistant. #mentalhealth #rightcarerightnow #NAMI #schizophrenia #psychosis #clozapine #ketogenicdiet #brainhealth

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by psychotic symptoms such as auditory and/or visual hallucinations, delusional thinking, and dissociation from reality. It is known to start in early childhood but most cases are reported to begin in the early or late twenties. It affects over 20 million people in the world today. The fear, disinformation, stigma and abuse are among the many factors that lead to wrong diagnosis or avoidance of this issue. As a result, many suffer its effects untreated, and so do their families and friends. People need to receive proper assessment and then receive medical attention for this illness. Let's stop the abuse and stigma. Get educated about it. #WorldSchizophreniaDay #Schizophrenia #MentalIllness #MentalHealth #MentalWellness #IAmOnuora
