This #GrandparentsDay, we celebrate individuals like Laban and Jane. They are grandparents living in a small farming town in western Kenya. To help their adult daughter, who is pursuing a degree in business at a local college, they became the primary caregivers for their daughter’s infant child. To ensure their granddaughter gets the care needed, they both participate in Moments That Matter®️, Episcopal Relief & Development’s transformative program partnership in early childhood development implemented with ADS-NYANZA. Happy International Day of the African Child! Since 1991, this day has honored the Soweto uprising in South Africa, where thousands of black school children protested the poor quality of their education. Today we honor the children that lost their lives and affirm that quality education is vital for the development of children everywhere. Education systems play a crucial role in early childhood and brain development, but the developmental process starts even before children enter their formal education. Caregivers can significantly influence their children's readiness for school and promote brain development through responsive caregiving. The serve and return framework is an effective tool for this purpose, involving five key steps: 1. Share the Focus: Pay attention to what the child is focusing on 2. Support and Encourage: Show the child they are heard and understood. 3. Name It: Identify and describe what the child is observing. 4. Take Turns: Allow the child to respond before introducing something new. 5. Practice Endings and Beginnings: Recognize when the child is ready to transition activities. Responsive caregiving occurs in everyday moments throughout a child's early life. We're proud to work with pediatric societies in Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique to promote this caregiving strategy. By coming forward to support orphaned children, we not only change their lives but also contribute to building a more compassionate and inclusive society. Imagine being a child without the comforting presence of a family. Orphaned children often find themselves in unstable and insecure situations, lacking the love, guidance, and stability that every child deserves. By stepping forward to support these children, whether through adoption, fostering, or providing financial assistance to orphanages, we offer them a sense of security and belonging that is crucial for their emotional and psychological well-being.When we extend a helping hand to orphaned children, we not only transform their lives but also cultivate empathy and compassion within ourselves and our communities. Dads: Honoring Our Legacy, Building a Supportive Future. As Kenya celebrates Madaraka Day, a day that marks our journey towards self-determination, let's also reflect on the legacy we want to leave for future generations. Dads today play a crucial role in shaping strong families and communities. But the reality? It can feel overwhelming.A 2023 study by the National Center For Fathering found that 4 out of 5 fathers reported feeling pressure to be the perfect "provider" for their families, both emotionally and financially. Here's another stat to ponder: A 2022 Pew Research Center study found that fathers now spend an average of 15.3 hours on childcare activities each week, which is more than double the amount of time fathers spent in 1965. Dads are stepping up, but the emotional burden can still be heavy. Let's break the silence, Dads! and build a more supportive future for fathers! Today, we're celebrating Children's Day! It's a day to reflect on the fact that these children have been given to us by the Lord to teach, care, and nurture them in a way that pleases God. Without Children, there would be no future as well as there would be no adults, and the way we raise our children will determine the quality of our future. I urge parents, society, government, and everyone to pay close attention to our children. Take the time to listen to their questions, spend quality time with them, and provide them with guidance. Children have so much on their minds, and they often feel confused about the world around them. They need our support and answers to their questions. If we fail to provide these, they may seek answers elsewhere, and we will lose our relevance in their lives. It's important to recognize that children are incredibly perceptive and are learning at a rapid pace. Stay close to your kids and be there for them, even if others think you're doing too much. It's better to show too much care than to do too little. The government should not only celebrate children on May 27 but also provide them with quality education, teaching and learning materials, and ensure access to healthcare with qualified paediatricians in our communities. It is also very important to take care of homeless children to prevent them from becoming a burden on society. Children are among the most vulnerable members of our society. I appeal to everyone to show kindness and compassion toward children. Instead of exploiting them for child labour, let's prioritize their well-being. Supporting community projects that aid children and sponsoring a child's education are just a few ways we can contribute to giving children a brighter future. I wish that every child finds Love and fulfilment and Lives the best Life God designed for them from the beginning. Happy Children's Day! Title: Responsible Parenthood: Ensuring Children's Well-being Many couples enter marriage with dreams of a family. However, ensuring a child's well-being goes beyond good intentions. The Challenge: Children have fundamental needs for food, shelter, healthcare, and education. It's crucial to have a stable environment that can support these needs. The Solution: Promoting responsible parenthood encourages couples to carefully consider their financial readiness before starting a family. This could involve: Financial Planning: Budgeting and assessing resources to ensure they can adequately provide for children. Family Planning: Spacing children strategically to allow for better financial and emotional investment in each child. Social Support Systems: Building a network of support, including family and community resources, to create a safety net. The Outcome: By prioritizing responsible parenthood, we can work towards a future where children are welcomed into a world equipped to nurture their growth and potential. UNICEF UNICEF USA #NewWine

It’s a brand new week, and we’re back to share with you some of the things, we hold dear to our heart at CCI. Recently, we’ve been talking about vulnerable children and youth, exploring the unique challenges they face. This week, let’s focus a bit more on a special group we highlighted last week, orphans, and the impact that orphanage placements can have on their lives. Let’s explore how a caring and supportive setting can make all the difference in these young lives: 🥕Sense of Belonging: Orphanages can become a safe place where kids feel they truly belong. When children feel seen and loved, it builds a foundation of trust and security. 🤝 🥕Education Opportunities: Often, living in an orphanage means kids get access to schooling and resources that set them up for success later on. Learning and growing, one step at a time! 🥕Emotional Support: While orphanages can provide stability, we know that children still need help to work through tough feelings. Love and understanding are a big part of the journey. 🥕Life Skills: These environments can also teach valuable life skills, giving children the confidence to face the world and take on adulthood with strength and independence. 🥕Building Social Bonds: The friendships and bonds they form help them grow into resilient, socially confident individuals. At CCI, we’re dedicated to making these positive impacts a reality. By supporting orphanages, guiding caregivers, and advising management on effective practices, we can help create environments where children feel truly nurtured and supported. We are as well confident that, with the right guidance, we can make a lasting difference which will ensure these children grow up surrounded by warmth, encouragement, and stability. What do you think is the most important aspect of caring for vulnerable children? We’d love to hear your thoughts! #NewWeekNewPossibilities #OrphanCare #EmpoweringChildren #BuildingFutures #EveryChildMatters #InspiringChange #CCICommunity
