Working Together for Lasting Change
About us
For over 80 years, Episcopal Relief & Development has worked with an extensive network of faith and community partners to advance lasting change in communities affected by injustice, poverty, disaster and climate change. Inspired by our faith, we reach over three million people each year by focusing on four interconnected priorities: nurturing the potential of caregivers and young children, reducing violence against women and girls, strengthening communities’ resilience to climate change and facilitating humanitarian response to disasters. Together with our partners, we leverage what’s working well to drive impact, learning and sustainability. Together, we create lasting change. Join us.

Today, The Episcopal Church observes the Feast of Bishop Paul Jones. Episcopal Relief & Development considers Bishop Paul Jones to be our founder. Bishop Jones was consecrated as Bishop of #Utah in 1914 and quickly distinguished himself for his outspoken politics. He was removed from office due to his outspoken pacifism and opposition to U.S. involvement in the First World War. In the 1930s, with the Nazis consolidating power in #Germany, #BishopJones pushed the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio, where he resided at the time, to find ways to assist Jews and others fleeing Nazi persecution and help them resettle in the United States. Due to his advocacy, the Diocese of Southern #Ohio led the charge for the #EpiscopalChurch to answer the needs of German refugees. Although Bishop Jones died before seeing the results of his campaigns, his advocacy led the Church to create the Presiding Bishop's Fund, the precursor to Episcopal Relief & Development. The dedication of people like Bishop Jones is the most important factor in allowing us to create #LastingChange. I invite everyone to join the Church in honoring the man who gave us the foundation for the work we do today. In closing, I'll leave you with this prayer from Lesser Feasts & Fasts to honor the Feast of Bishop Paul Jones: Merciful God, you sent your beloved Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Raise up in this and every land witnesses who, after the example of your servant Paul Jones, will stand firm in proclaiming the Gospel of the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. #EpiscopalRelief

In 2019, Programa REDES launched an Episcopal Relief & Development Savings with Education program with six savings groups to enhance financial strength and disaster resilience in communities across Puerto Rico. Group members meet weekly to contribute to a shared account, managed collectively to achieve a savings goal. In addition to financial growth and social bonds, members learn about water conservation, energy efficiency, and disaster response training like CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). Episcopal Relief & Development partners with E-CARE (the Episcopal Community Action for Renewal and Empowerment Foundation), the relief and development arm of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines. Together we use the asset-based community development (ABCD) approach, assisting community groups to identify available assets and resources for the building blocks of development. Community members pay forward project funds to uphold the principles of E-CARES’ Receivers-to-Givers (R2G) philosophy to help others in need. https://lnkd.in/eh3QY_uQ #episcopalreief
