On 28 August 2024, the 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗦𝗕𝗧𝗶) introduced a new plan to help the buildings sector reduce its carbon emissions and move towards #NetZero goals. Since buildings are responsible for nearly 40% of the world's energy-related #CarbonEmissions, this new plan provides clear, science-backed steps for companies to reduce their impact on the planet. As #ClimateChange continues to be a major challenge, this plan is a critical move to align the buildings sector with global climate targets. 𝗔 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 The new plan offers practical advice for #RealEstateDevelopers, #ConstructionCompanies, and building owners on how to cut down on carbon emissions and adopt more #EcoFriendly practices. It highlights important areas such as using energy more efficiently, choosing #LowCarbonMaterials, and incorporating #RenewableEnergy. This approach helps companies not only build better but also grow sustainably, balancing economic success with protecting the environment. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲🌱 With the launch of this plan on 28 August 2024, #SBTi is encouraging everyone in the buildings sector to take concrete actions towards a greener future. It emphasises the need for #Transparency and #Leadership in meeting sustainability goals. By following this new guidance, companies can reduce their environmental impact and find new economic opportunities through #Innovation and efficient practices. Now is the time for the industry to step up, lead the charge against climate change, and build a sustainable future for all. #Sustainability #GreenBuildings #ESG #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergy #EnvironmentalResponsibility #BuildingTheFuture DLS & Associates LLP Harsha Ramnani Sumit Dhadda https://lnkd.in/gMXxJFjs

Decarbonise Now for a Sustainable Future! We all know we're in a climate emergency, and the built environment plays a big part in it 🌍. As we push towards achieving net zero and making our cities more resilient, decarbonisation must be at the heart of our decision-making. At the recent RICS conference in Northern Ireland, the focus was on sustainability and how professionals in the built environment can work together to address the sector's challenges. We heard many success stories, but it's clear there's more we can do. Gathering for these discussions helps us tackle industry issues collectively, and build a sustainable future. According to the latest RICS Global Sustainability Report, around 60% of UK respondents saw a rise in investor demand for green buildings over the past year 📈. Despite this, 43% globally reported they don't measure embodied carbon on projects. We must make carbon measurement common practice. Tools like RICS' Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) guide the industry toward lower carbon designs and help quantify construction impacts. By understanding and managing our emissions better, we can build more sustainable communities. Let's drive change together! How do you think we can further integrate decarbonisation into our daily practices? Share your thoughts below or visit netzeroevolution.com to learn more. #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #NetZero

Thank you to everyone who joined today's webinar and contributed to the engaging discussion. A year on from our last sustainability report, experts Anil Sawhney, Frank Hovorka, Gulnara Roll, Sandeep Singh, and Anna Zinecker unveiled the findings of the 𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. They provided invaluable insights into the progress of the built environment, exploring evolving attitudes and practices in real estate and construction. Key topics covered included occupier demand for sustainable buildings, the role of ESG in investment decisions, and the impact of green buildings on premiums. We also delved into the increasing importance of resilience to extreme weather and examined how the industry is responding to changing regulations, biodiversity concerns, and embodied carbon. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀: Barriers can be overcome through credible policy interventions, for example, mandating whole life carbon assessments for projects and assets. We are moving in the right direction, but not at the right pace. If we don't move at the right pace, the destination keeps getting further away and requires extra effort to get there. There is still not enough money committed to mitigation. When mitigation measures are not working, we have to adapt, which is why adaptation discussion is very big globally. The cost of doing nothing and building as usual is more expensive over time than acting now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A key challenge we face with green buildings is expanding their reach beyond markets where they are already well-established, ensuring they become mainstream and achieve scalability. Stay tuned for a detailed summary coming soon.
