The federal government of #Nigeria via the Ministry of Power in partnership with the National Council of Privatisation (NCP) is finalizing plans to sell out five state-owned power plants at a total cost of $1.15 billion. The country’s Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu said the move was part of a broader strategy to overhaul the #energy sector, boost efficiency, and attract private investment. Although the bid winners have yet to be named by the NCP headed by the Vice President, the five (5) power plants put forward for sale to private investors include; 1. Geregu ll Plant (434MW) in Kogi 2. Omotosho II Plant (451MW) Ondo 3. Benin-Ihovbor Plant (451MW) in Edo 4. Olorunsogo II Plant (750MW) in Ogun 5. Odukpani Plant (563MW) in Cross River Recall, that in late April 2024, the Power Minister had hinted about an ongoing system restructuring that may result in the sale of five (5) electricity utility companies over inefficiency and insolvency. Nigeria has suffered huge economic losses due to power shortages over the years. I hope that this strategic step by the government to sell these critical #power assets will help boost their #efficiency and address the nation’s chronic power nightmare. ~ VJB

Senior Consultant at Ea Energy Analyses | Energy Market Design, Regulation & Policy | Data | Economics | Research | Business Development
What is 🇰🇪 Kenya's vision of its electricity market design? In what sequence will it be implemented? What is the expected timeline for these series of changes to take place? How does this agreed vision fit in with Kenya's Electricity Act of 2019? These were the questions answered in last week's Electricity Markets Workshop - the second in a series of engagements where Kenyan energy professionals discuss the future of their market. Kenya’s Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority the Ministry of Energy of Kenya, Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO), Kenya Power, KenGen Kenya were all represented and jointly contributed with the agreed vision and the roadmap for a Kenyan electricity market. As in the workshop of October 2023, the Danish experience and challenges enlightened the discussions, but the vision of a market is "made by the Kenyans for the Kenyans". As always, it was a pleasure to meet with such a group of highly skilled professionals, to experience the nature of such an amazing country, but even more relevant to experience the kindness of the Kenyan people. Thanks to Alessandro Setti, Stephan Skare Enevoldsen, Mikkel Kamp Hansen and to Lasse Toft for giving Ea Energy Analyses and me the opportunity to facilitate the development of a vision and related discussions. #electricity #market #design #africa #cooperation #denmark #kenya #greentransition
