Yesterday, European Maritime Pilots' Association (EMPA) participated in the Global Gateway Green Shipping Corridors (GGGSC) workshop, organised by DG INTPA. The main message was that the Commission, Member States, partners and private sector should unite as Team Europe to foster efficient, resilient, and sustainable transport with a strong focus on security of supply and competitiveness of ports. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) presented the first phase of the GGGSC study findings and representatives of the Member States and of the EU private sector briefly provided some of their insights.

The shipping industry is being driven to change by emissions-related regulatory changes (rules and 'carbon taxes') and client Scope 3 related requirements. The ability to plan accurately and benchmark across the industry using these measures will become increasingly critical to profitability and even survival. Satva Trust is the only source of independent, trully verifiable data on historical fuel use and emissions performance across the industry. Every other source involves blindly trusting self-reported data, and is limited to random sub-sections of the whole world's fleet's data set, driven by which companies your source happens to have commercial relationships with. Give yourself the best information on which to make your decisions: talk to us at Satva Trust. #ShippingData #MarineData #Decarbonisation #MarineInsurance #MarineLending #VoluntaryCarbonCredits #PoseidonPrinciplesForMarineLenders #AuditableShippingData #TrustInData
🌊🔱 Post #Posidonia Events Regulatory & Decarbonization Updates University of Strathclyde & Hellenic Naval Academy (HNA)’s International Workshop on Maritime Challenges and Future Prospects ⚖️🌱 Regulatory & Decarbonization insights: Prof. Michael Fan outlined the maritime decarbonization challenge stating that, without any actions, the International Maritime Organization predicts a 130% increase of emissions by 2050. The recent #EU regulations are therefore much needed and the particularly demanding #FuelEU Maritime a necessity to change the traditional way. He predicted the daily extra costs of a container ship operating on a Far East / EU round trip to amount to 3000€ in 2025, 20000€ in 2035, and 100000 € in 2050. While this regulation rewards first movers and “turbocharges the ROI”, he also pointed out the risk for smaller companies that might be out of business soon. In this context, he stressed that “pooling is a game changer”! _____________ BetterSea helps you be on top of the #FuelEU Maritime regulation with a #marketplace for #pooling, and options for #banking and #borrowing. 🤝🌊 _____________ Reach out 👇 ☕️ https://lnkd.in/e9wz_a5F 📩 max.schroer@bettersea.tech _____________ #FuelEU #carbontax #ets #POS24 #PosidoniaEvents #MaritimeIndustry #ShippingIndustry #MaritimeExpo #ShippingExpo #Maritime #Shipping #ShippingNews

A great article by Interreg Baltic Sea Region and my favourite Mr Ulf Siwe on the important work from a few of our excellent projects are conducting in the Baltic Sea: "The solutions developed by these projects advance the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region policy areas Ship and Safe in their mission to make the Baltic Sea region a model region for sustainable shipping. Together, project partners and the coordinators of the EUSBSR policy areas ensure that our region can function as a test-bed for new and innovative products, services, methods, and practices addressing global challenges." Recently, WSC’s Lars Kjaer attended the last scheduled meeting of the TopTier’s Steering Committee in Wageningen, the Netherlands, on 21-22 November. 🇳🇱 The meeting was briefed by the chairs of the six working groups established under the project that have undertaken scientifically based research and analyses of a plethora of various likely root causes for incidents involving containers lost at sea. 🚢 Several of the working groups are finalizing their reports to include actionable conclusions and recommendations. These will form part of the final report by #TopTier to the meeting of the IMO’s Sub-committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers that is scheduled to meet in September 2025, and which is the principal IMO body dealing with container losses. As such, the final TopTier report will constitute an important input to the International Maritime Organization’s deliberations on possible measures to reduce incidences of containers lost at sea to as close as zero as possible. 2mo🚢💡 This is a timely and crucial event—I’m very much looking forward to it! 🌍✨Not least to discuss the fact that according to the European Environment Agency #GHG emissions from the EU #maritime sector are up 19.9% since 1990 and projected to climb even higher by 2030 and higher still by 2050. It's clear we’re not out of the woods yet! 🌱📈 This is taking into account measures like #ETS and #FuelEU Maritime, and with roughly half the industry investing in alternative fuel vessels, mainly #LNG pathway ships, but also dual-fueled #methanol and #ammonia vessels, so the question remains: ⚡ How do we convince the other half still investing in heavy fuel oil vessels to act—and turn the ship around before it hits the climate change rocks? 🌊🔥 #MaritimeDecarbonisation #Sustainability #GreenShipping #ClimateAction #FutureOfShipping #ESS2025🚀⚓
