Did you know that the chemical industry plays a pivotal role in our everyday lives? From fighting COVID-19 to ensuring a constant food supply, chemistry is at the heart of progress. Yet, there’s a massive marketing gap – the public often sees us as a net negative. Amelia Greene says, "We need to take an active role in debunking the public’s negative perception of the industry at large and showing its value to society. We need to better tell our story, share our wins, and market ourselves to the next generation as an industry of choice for employment." Women in Chemicals is here to bridge the gap. We’re a vibrant community committed to empowering women across the chemical value chain. Let’s make the chemical industry visible and attract the brightest minds! Read Amelia Greene's insightful article in Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN) for more on this topic & learn about the Women in Chemicals program, Career in Chemicals: https://lnkd.in/ggHyCuev

As the chemical industry continues to evolve, it is essential to invest in the development and diversification of the future workforce. How are companies and organizations contributing to building a sustainable and inclusive workforce for the chemical industry? This week Victoria Meyer is joined by three female board members of the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF): Joyce Marshall Johnson from Univar Solutions, Rene Whigham from Olin, and Jennifer Jewson from LyondellBasell. Highlighting the critical role of companies in investing and developing the future workforce, the panel emphasizes the need for diversification to drive innovation. These women discuss the importance of investing in the workforce, sharing best practices, and exploring strategies for creating a more inclusive and diverse workforce in the chemical industry. Reflecting on my time at Women in Chemicals inaugural conference this week, I am overwhelmed by a renewed sense of community. While I could drone on and on about every meaningful connection made or seminar attended, I want to share the 5 most impactful takeaways that I would share with little Brittany (and her pigtails): 1) Instead of asking "why", start asking "why not". Innovation is born from those not scared to take risks and dream big. Let haters be your motivators, and remind yourself that when nothing is certain, everything is possible. 2) Authenticity will always trump spuriousness. Period! 3) You are well within your rights to demand a seat at the table. Teach young women and girls to speak up and celebrate their successes, instead of downplaying them in fear of negative reactions from their peers. Let them know you've earned it! 4) The world needs more women in STEM. Science is the foundation of hope and the promise of a future that looks different from the world we live in today. Fostering an environment where young women and girls feel comfortable exploring opportunities in the scientific community is essential for driving the needle and shattering the glass ceiling. 5) We really can have it all. Being a career woman does not have to mean sacrificing the things that are unique to womanhood and the female experience. Learning to say no just means more opportunities to say yes... I am so unbelievably grateful for Amelia, Kylie, and the entire WIC team for putting this event together. While this conference signifies tremendous progress for the chemicals industry, the work has only just begun. Our world is a better place when we work to uplift each other, rather than trying to tear eachother down. The world needs more girl's girls, and I'm thankful to have spent the past 3 days with 375 of the best of them! #WomenInChemicals #InHerElement #WhoRunsTheWorld

👩🔬 ⚗ This year - for the first time ever! - Fecc will celebrate the upcoming #International #Women’s Day on 8 March with a special virtual event on #Diversity & #Inclusion in the #chemical #industry in a unique set-up. ⏰ From today onwards, we will count down the remaining days up to then by showcasing some of the powerful female faces of our community as the fantastic #role #models they are. 👉 Be with us on 8 March - see below for more details & registration! Why is diversity & inclusion so important? In the words of our Director General, Dorothee Arns, because: ◾ it is a modern approach ◾ it pays out: mixed teams perform better, as empiric studies tell us ◾ the chemical value chain is an enabling industry for all our downstream users. We develop the solutions to today's and tomorrow's societal mega-challenges, such as fresh water and renewable energy supplies. Only if we are as diverse as the societies we serve can we anticipate the trends and find #innovative, #sustainable #solutions. Fecc is proud to be a diverse & inclusive engine and working place. ℹ EVENT’S INFORMATION 🤝 Co-host: Chemical Week by S&P Global 📅 8 March 2024 | 10:30-12:00 CET 📲 Registration: https://lnkd.in/d3tNfz5N 🔵 Event’s detailed information: https://lnkd.in/dweEEfnw

Employment industry of choice or by chance? Never heard or heard but only bad words? Heard that they work for the environment, but it's all a load of buzz. Seems like bias against #chemical #industry and image issues. (𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯'𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵. But the impact is positive and significant, only unseen/hidden/overlooked ?, difficult for me to say) Great piece. Strongly #recommend to read. #WomenInChemicals #WomenEmpowerment #AllWomen #GrowthMindset

The chemical industry has a major marketing problem: our crucial contributions to society are often overshadowed by negative perceptions. The public doesn’t know what the chemical industry’s purpose is, and worse, they believe it only detracts from society. Read my thoughts in the article below on how this challenge impacts our ability to attract talent and what organizations like Women in Chemicals are doing to address this. Fortifying our industry for future success means we need to address this visibility and perception problem for the next generation of talent as they make their way into the workforce. Thank you to C&EN & Laura Howes for the opportunity to contribute to C&EN's opinion articles. Extra special thank you to Pooja Aggarwal, Ph.D. for identifying and bringing forward this opportunity!
