💚 Finland is a committed forerunner in the green transition, with a strong backing from its government, infrastructure, and industry – making the country a great location to settle down for success. 💡 Did you know that Finland's commitment to climate action dates back much further than the recent years? In 1990, Finland became the world’s first country to levy a tax on carbon dioxide emissions, an early precursor to the country's ambitious pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2035. 💡 Finland has also made a noteworthy shift toward clean energy: more than 90% of the energy generated is already carbon neutral. Yet, the target is to double the clean energy production to build a more robust and sustainable foundation for economic growth. 💡 Finland's commitment to green transition creates business oppirtunities for companies in many sectors, like in the #hydrogen economy and the #battery value chain – the building blocks are being put in place across Finland. ❄️ As Britain braces for snowfall today and the news Labour maybe considering scaling back on £28bn-a-year green investment target, I’m reminded of my study visit to Switzerland, near the town of Lungern, where I had the privilege of touring a cutting-edge hydro power plant KWO Grimselwelt alongside a high level delegation from Asia. This experience not only highlighted the marvels of sustainable energy but also showcased the beauty of combining technology with nature’s power. The snow-capped mountains and the crisp, cold air of Switzerland provided a perfect backdrop to our meetings on renewable energy, innovation, and global collaboration. The insights gained during this visit have become even more relevant today as we navigate the challenges of climate change and seek sustainable solutions for our energy needs. This throwback is a reminder of the invaluable lessons learned and the importance of international cooperation in advancing green technology. As the snow falls in Britain, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature and the potential it holds for a sustainable future. 🇨🇭 🇬🇧 ❄️ #studyvisit #executive #studytrip #studytour #executiveeducation #meetyourpeers #sitevisit #meetyourfuture #greeninvestmenttarget #greennewdeal #eugreendeal #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #interlaken #HydroPower #InternationalCooperation #Throwback #Switzerland #KWOGrimselwelt #cop24

#Transportation is a vital component of modern society, enabling the movement of people and goods across various distances. However, it is also a major energy consumer and a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The burning of fossil fuels in vehicles releases carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), which contribute to global warming and climate change. Additionally, transportation activities release pollutants that degrade air quality and have adverse effects on human health. The sector is one of the largest contributors to GHG emissions globally. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), it accounted for approximately 24% of energy-related CO2 emissions in 2019. One effective strategy for mitigating the environmental impact of transportation is the promotion of electric mobility. #ElectricVehicles (#EVs) produce zero tailpipe emissions, reducing air pollution and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. By transitioning to #ElectricMobility, countries can significantly reduce their #CarbonFootprint and improve air quality. Dar es Salaam, the largest city in #Tanzania, faces challenges related to air pollution and traffic congestion. To address these issues, an #EMobility initiative has been introduced in the city by SolutionsPLUS. This initiative aims to promote the adoption of electric vehicles for both public and private transportation and electrifying three wheelers providing feeder services to the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT). By integrating electric mobility into the urban transport system, Dar es Salaam seeks to reduce its environmental impact and improve the overall quality of life for its residents. This project has received funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under grant Agreement Number 875041 #AGreenLifestyle ELICO Foundation | MicroEnergy International | EEP Africa | Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) | Tanzania Electric Mobility Association (TAEMA) | Nukta Africa | Sun-Connect News

Executive Director @ Next Energy Consumer | Energ’ Ethic Podcast Host | Consultant in Policy & Thought Leadership, Public Speaker, Energy Justice Advocate | EU Climate Pact Ambassador
We need substantive dialogues and exchange good practices to make the energy transition a concrete reality. Merci and a Bedankt to the organisers of the Energy Transition Congress, and in particular to Dirk Van Evercooren Eric Monami, Techlink, ODE Vlaanderen and Edora - Fédération des énergies renouvelables who did just that! This event looked to the near future of energy policies in Belgium, which will head the European Council from January 2024, while being subject to numerous elections. #Belgium is a laboratory for Europe, if not the world, a microcosm of energy democracy in which 3 governments, 4 regulators and many utilities must build agreements in at least two languages and thought systems. It causes incompressible slowdowns but also stimulates creativity and the need to think in a highly structured way about the issues and challenges of our time. Invited to talk about social acceptability, especially in a European context, I stressed the need for #trust and coherence in strategies aimed at citizens, as workers and consumers. Many people can't adopt the tools available to them or invest in them, perhaps because they are facing #energypoverty like 42 million other Europeans, or perhaps they have doubts. And one of the problems we're facing is that, with so many algorithms offering us selections based on #AI artificial intelligence, reality may be distorted into a sounding board for toxic ideas and positions. The impact of companies should be structured around positive messages: climate change is an opportunity to improve our lives and create links and social value. Particularly if we make choices in the direction of relevant partnerships between public, community and private players, prioritising the responsibility of stakeholders insisting on strengthening an ecosystem where we feel respected & where our disagreements and structural challenges are listened to. This means taking greater account of and respecting #consumers' rights. An inclusive ecosystem is essential for creating & maintaining trust. The notion of #coherence in strategies and programmes came back several times, such as in financing models, tax and subsidy regimes that sustainable options genuinely cheaper than fossils'. Furthermore, as is clearly shown in the Atlas I prepared for the Institut de la Francophonie pour le développement durable - IFDD and presented last week in Dubai #COP28UAE, Belgian companies can count on highly developed green skills useful for developing heat pumps, heat networks, and energy communities. But these #skills need to be nurtured to better serve people on the ground, such as those who need advice on how to carry out energy-efficient renovations. From the European to the federal, regional and local levels, this event demonstrates that collaboration between players at all levels is a winning strategy. So, I end this year of research and #publicspeaking inspired and motivated by Belgium's prospects. I am looking forward to 2024!
