Did you know that Synhelion is part of Airports of Tomorrow – the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) flagship aviation decarbonization initiative? ✈️ The Airports of Tomorrow (AoT) initiative seeks to address the energy, infrastructure, and financing needs of the aviation industry’s transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. To break down what airports can do to tackle their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and the financing mechanisms to pay for it, the AOT initiative with Oliver Wyman, ACI and Mundys have published the "Financing the Airports of Tomorrow: A Green Transition Toolkit". The toolkit includes: ✔ A list of ways airports can influence the value chain to reduce Scope 3 emissions ✔ Detailed breakdowns of financing instruments, mapped by applicability ✔ Case studies to provide best practices on putting the two together 🌍 The World Economic Forum focuses on scalable solutions like sustainable aviation fuels and innovative infrastructure to support #netzero aviation. The goal: shaping a future where airports play a pivotal role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. 👉 Check out the toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/etTDD4rH

In one of my latest articles for FlightGlobal I took stock of the business aviation sector's progress on sustainability. The intro went like this: Europe’s premier business aviation show (EBACE) was targeted by climate protesters, who chained themselves to aircraft stairs and “stuck giant tobacco-style health warning labels on the jets marking them as toxic objects and warning that ‘private jets burn our future’, ‘kill our planet’, and ‘fuel inequality’,” according to Greenpeace. I ask industry leaders about their response. I also examine the increase in political calls for greater regulation of private jet flights, including the idea of bans or more taxation. The article also examines progress on SAF, book and claim and offsets. As Scott Cutshall, CAM, senior vice-president development and sustainability at Clay Lacy Aviation, explained: “We need to take control of our own future in business aviation, and everybody must do their part by starting to operate more sustainably." Scott is one of the panellists on the 11 October FlightGlobal Sustainability webinar, joining Kurt Edwards of IBAC, Ève Laurier of BOMBARDIER, and Scott McElvaine of Pratt & Whitney Canada, where we will discuss these issues and more.
