Did you know that Synhelion is part of Airports of Tomorrow โ the World Economic Forumโs (WEF) flagship aviation decarbonization initiative? โ๏ธ The Airports of Tomorrow (AoT) initiative seeks to address the energy, infrastructure, and financing needs of the aviation industryโs transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. To break down what airports can do to tackle their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and the financing mechanisms to pay for it, the AOT initiative with Oliver Wyman, ACI and Mundys have published the "Financing the Airports of Tomorrow: A Green Transition Toolkit". The toolkit includes: โ A list of ways airports can influence the value chain to reduce Scope 3 emissions โ Detailed breakdowns of financing instruments, mapped by applicability โ Case studies to provide best practices on putting the two together ๐ The World Economic Forum focuses on scalable solutions like sustainable aviation fuels and innovative infrastructure to support #netzero aviation. The goal: shaping a future where airports play a pivotal role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. ๐ Check out the toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/etTDD4rH

For The French Tech Journal this week, Helen O'Reilly-Durand produced a special report on France's emerging Sustainable Aviation ecosystem. Given the historical and economic importance of aerospace to France, the government is putting big resources via its โฌ54bn France 2030 plan behind the effort to create cleaner forms of aviation technology in the hopes of remaining a leader in this critical market. Still, many investors and founders worry that it's not enough and that the country has fallen behind and needs to do more to catch up. https://lnkd.in/eKiCG9dy

Excited to hear about how digital solutions can reduce airport emissions? Do tune in to hear what James Creegan and Airports of Tomorrow have to say. #WeAreArup #circulareconomy #digitalairports
Digital solutions have the potential to reduce global emissions by up to 20%, but, how can this potential be applied to airports? Next May 13th at 16.00 CET the World Economic Forum's #AirportsofTomorrow initiative will co-host a webinar about #Smart and #Circular airports. Together with our knowledge partner Arup, we will discuss about "Enhancing data for efficient and sustainable airports". Looking forward to the insightful inputs from our industry experts: โ Ruggero Poli (Mundys), โ Grรฉgoire James (International Aviation Waste Management Association (IAWMA)), โ TP Chopra (Industry.AI). Any question? Do not hesitate to drop us a message. James Creegan and myself will be happy to support. Like, comment and share! ๐

โฎ๏ธ Event Recap: Insights from the 9th Smart Airports & Regions Conference Earlier this month, Marilyn Specht, our Sustainability lead in the U.S., spoke at the Smart Airports & Regions Conference, held from July 10-12, in #Denver, Colorado. It was an insightful event focused on connectivity, innovation, and opportunities for sustainable and economic recovery in aviation. During her session, "A Sustainable Reset for Airports," Marilyn emphasized three key opportunities: ๐ Leveraging Successes from Other Sectors: Accelerating progress by adopting proven strategies. ๐ค Integrating Sustainability: Making sustainability a core component rather than an add-on. ๐ ๏ธ Innovative Tools for Decarbonization: Highlighting the use of Carbon Signal to scale decarbonization efforts. The conference echoed themes of sustainability, decarbonization, and ESG across various sessions, envisioning airports as future energy, data, and multimodal transportation hubs. This vision underscores the importance of decoupling growth from environmental impact. ๐For more insights and details on our aviation practice, click here โถ๏ธ https://lnkd.in/gM_unJBm #LivingSystems #SustainableAviation #SmartAirports #Decarbonization

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) is a regional airport with ambitious objectives in sustainability, innovation, passenger experience, and regional connectivity. Each year, over two million passengers travel through the airport to more than fifty European destinations, encompassing both business and leisure trips. As part of the Royal Schiphol Group, Rotterdam The Hague Airport actively contributes to the region's development. Beyond serving as an airport, it functions as an employer, an educational hub, an #innovation incubator, a facilitator of connections, a business collaborator, and the face of the region. Collaborating with its partners, RTHA strives to create a distinctive passenger experience and take a leading role in reshaping and advancing the aviation sector. Furthermore, it plays a crucial societal role as a starting point for trauma and police helicopters. Among the most relevant achievements to be mentioned, it is worth mentioning that RTHA has received the highest (ACA level 5) certificate from ACI EUROPE Airport Carbon Accreditation. In addition, the facility is characterized by the recent installation of 37,000 solar panels parallel to the airportโs runway and the organization is also strongly committed to innovation in the field of hydrogen-powered #aviation. RTHAโs potential contribution to HOPE can be significant, particularly in the area of noise and emissions reduction. As an Advisory Board member, the airport can provide valuable insights into the practical implementation of the project's innovations aimed at reducing noise and emissions. Additionally, the airport's commitment to surpassing regional requirements in this regard demonstrates a willingness to actively participate in achieving the project's goals. Overall, the involvement of an airport in HOPE can help ensure that the research findings are practical, relevant, and can be effectively implemented in the aviation industry for the advantage of citizens' health. In the project HOPE, Rotterdam The Hague Airport is represented by Daan van Dijk, currently working on making RTHA an international testing ground for sustainable and high-quality innovations in the aviation sector like #hydrogen and #battery-electric aviation.

Despite engaging in discussions about developing cutting-edge technology to enhance airports and secure a sustainable future, it appears that genuine commitment to taking meaningful action is lacking. The prevailing sentiment seems to be more focused on talk rather than tangible efforts to bring about the transformative changes we envision for airports and their essential roles. Unfortunately, the rhetoric outweighs any actual commitment to implementing the ideas and innovations discussed, leaving us skeptical about the likelihood of seeing concrete results.
