While physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy primarily focus on rehabilitation and improving function in different areas of the body, they indirectly benefit kidney health. PT can help manage musculoskeletal issues that may arise from kidney disease or treatment, such as muscle weakness or joint pain. OT assists in adapting daily activities to accommodate changes in physical abilities, promoting independence, and reducing stress. ST can aid in managing swallowing difficulties or speech problems that may occur due to kidney-related conditions or treatments. Incorporating these therapies into a comprehensive care plan can contribute to better overall well-being for individuals with kidney health issues. #ahatherapy #therapyrevolution #NationalKidneyMonth

💡 Specialized rehabilitation services are identified in the resident’s PASRR and are part of the comprehensive care plan. Rehabilitation services must be ordered by the provider and performed by qualified personnel and can include: ✅ Physical Therapy ✅ Speech-Language Pathology ✅ Occupational Therapy ✅ Respiratory Therapy ✅ Rehabilitative Services for mental illness and intellectual disability The care plan and provider orders should identify any required assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and splints. Interventions should be taken to optimize resident use and minimize the risk of harm, including pressure injuries. Optimizing specialized rehabilitation services can improve residents’ quality of life. #NationalRehabilitationAwarenessWeek #Mitig8RiskReveal #Mitig8YourRisk #LegalNurseConsultant #HealthcareCompliance Hindy Katz , Lisa Fedorka Brocky

Through my occupational therapy assistant schooling, I often find myself advocating for and demonstrating the importance of therapeutic exercises. Recently, I had the unexpected opportunity to practice what I preach after experiencing a shoulder subluxation. To kickstart my rehabilitation journey, I turned to Pendulum exercises, a cornerstone of shoulder rehabilitation. These gentle, controlled movements have been my go-to technique for regaining mobility and strength. Designed to promote healing and prevent stiffness, they offer a way to rehabilitate without putting undue stress on the injured joint. Here are a few key benefits I experienced: 1. Pain Relief:The rhythmic motion helped reduce pain and discomfort. 2. Improved Range of Motion: Gradually, I noticed increased flexibility and reduced stiffness. 3. Enhanced Blood Flow: These exercises promoted circulation, which is crucial for healing. Going through this rehabilitation process myself has deepened my appreciation for the power of therapeutic exercises and the resilience of the human body. #OccupationalTherapy #Rehabilitation #ShoulderRecovery #PendulumExercises #HealthcareProfessionals

March is #BrainInjuryAwarenessMonth, a time to spread awareness around brain injuries and accompanying symptoms. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy play important roles in the recovery process for those afflicted with brain injuries, helping to restore strength and mobility and improve communication and cognitive skills. If you or someone you know has been affected by a brain injury, remember that you are not alone. Talk to your health care provider about the best treatment plan for recovery.
