What an amazing day at *Extraordinary Women in Technology* conference in Dallas! I had the privilege of moderating a powerful panel on Resilience, Adaptability, and Personal Branding for Leadership, joined LaShauna Bryant Kathryn Ikle Melissa Aarskaug and @AngelaMarano. It was an inspiring discussion around balancing innovation and stability during this era of AI disruption, self-advocacy, and building a personal brand that is authentic and standing out. Some of the key takeaways: - **Balancing innovation and stability**: How can we, as leaders, drive change while maintaining organizational stability? In times of disruption, resilience becomes a crucial leadership trait, and the key to balancing innovation and stability is in building trust within your organization and your customers and in calculated and strategic risk-taking. - **Self-advocacy & personal brand**: Your career progression depends on you being your best advocate. Understand your real value and communicate it effectively. - **Handling pushback**: Setbacks and resistance are inevitable. What defines success is how we respond. Having integrity and pushing forward with confidence, despite the hurdles, is key. - **Standing out in large organizations**: It’s all about being genuinely embedded in the fabric of the organization, embracing challenges, and being intentional in putting your achievements forward. The energy and insights shared in the room were truly transformative, and it reminded me that in leadership and career progression, it's about showing up with integrity and *doing it anyway*, regardless of the challenges we face. Avenue Code team - thank you for organizing and making it happen. #GoodEnergy #Integrity #DoItAnyway #Leadership #PersonalBranding #Adaptability #AI #WomenInTech #Resilience #CareerGrowth #ewitdallas #extraordinarywomenintechnology

What a way to start the week! I was in Toronto for the annual #CatalystHonours - a thought-provoking day with many of Canada's corporate leaders, discussing the state of, challenges to, and opportunities to advance gender equality and #DEIA. The day wrapped up with our CEO session on #AI's impact on #DEI, where I got to share the work PeaceGeeks has been doing in partnership with Accenture to build Welcome to Canada's #VirtualCareerCoach. As David notes, responsible implementation of genAI has the ability to foster a more inclusive future. But our ability to leverage that promise will come from leaders in technology, business, government and civil society being proactive rather than reactive in checking bias through human-centered design, testing with end users, and implementing comprehensive workforce training. This is equally true in the settlement sector. I went from Catalyst to #OCASI's #LeadersForum where a few organizations revealed their current policy is to forbid staff to use genAI. I understand the concern and far-reaching implications of unethical use when engaging with sensitive client data. But a blanket policy not only disadvantages non-native speaking staff who are using tools like Grammerly and ChatGPT as language tools, but it pushes curiosity underground, and prevents the benefits of developing informed, ethical use guidelines, and sparking staff's ingenuity to save hours of time on menial tasks allowing them more time developing human connections with clients. SPOs, if you're at a loss on what ethical guardrails and team training could look like for genAI, let me know; we can help. Thank you Julie Cafley, PhD and David Morgenstern, and both of your teams, as well as the exceptional leaders I got to speak alongside: Aneela Zaib, Kathleen Taylor, and Pamela Pelletier.
Thrilled to have hosted another CEO roundtable discussion at this week’s Catalyst Inc. Honours event. I had the privilege of leading a dynamic panel with these incredible leaders: Jennifer Freeman, CEO of Peace Geeks, Pamela Pelletier, country leader of Dell Canada, Kathleen Taylor, Chair of Element Fleet Management, and Catalyst Trailblazing Champion, Aneela Zaib, CEO of emergiTEL. Our conversation was inspiring – from exploring how AI has been powering virtual career coaches for newcomers to Canada, to driving diversity in hiring by providing a greater suite of insights to recruiters, and discussing our recent research finding that men currently use generative AI 1.6 times more than women, despite its potential impact on roles predominantly held by women. There is a strategic opportunity for leaders to invest in reskilling programs, ensuring that diverse groups are adequately prepared for the workforce transition that is underway. Responsible implementation of generative AI and AI can foster a more inclusive future, but it's up to visionary and inclusive leaders like those in the room today to proactively shape our work and workforces, unlocking the tangible business value connected to DEI efforts. A heartfelt thank you to Julie Cafley, PhD and the entire Catalyst team for another year of pushing boundaries. #CatalystHonours #AIforGood #InclusiveLeadership

Responsive Conference has always been ahead of the curve. We’ve always been exploring the next big thing before they were the next big thing. → We were discussing diversity and belonging in the workplace in 2017 → We were debating artificial intelligence on stage in 2019 → We were talking about the trends that the COVID19 pandemic exposed long before lockdown. This year, in September, we’re bringing together 250 CEOs, founders, and leaders from across industries to connect and work better together.
