#TriviaTuesday is highlighting Back 2 School America 🎓 Back 2 School America's roots go back to 2007. What started as a small community relations program by the Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois provided 175 children with school supplies has grown in a nationwide program that has served over 375,000+ children across the country! As the program evolved, supplies were distributed in the form of Back 2 School kits, each containing the core supplies that students need to succeed in the classroom. To facilitate the distribution of these kits, partnerships were developed with a numerous community organizations and government agencies. In 2015, a Build-A-Kit initiative, which allows companies to purchase school supplies in bulk and assemble them into kits, as part of a team building exercise, helped to accelerate the growth of the Back 2 School program. While the Back 2 School program remains the main thrust of B2SA’s efforts, the organization also offers other programs that fit within the guidelines of their mission. Back 2 School America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide school supplies and other tools throughout the year to ensure educational success of children in need across the USA. 🌍 Unseen Struggles: The Fight for Filandia's Youth In the heart of Colombia's coffee region, the town of Filandia seems like a paradise with its lush green hills and colorful houses. Yet beneath this façade lies a community grappling with harsh realities—realities that many would rather ignore. For the children of Filandia, life is a daily battle against threats that range from poverty and family instability to the pervasive influence of drug cartels and human traffickers. 🏠 A Sanctuary in the Midst of Turmoil Eyson and Karson, Village Reach's dedicated dreamers, have committed their lives to building a sanctuary for children and youth in Filandia. Their ministry, Fundación Pioneros, focuses on after-school programs, tutoring, and Bible studies—creating a safe space for young people to learn, grow, and experience the love of Christ. However, their work is far from easy. Filandia, like many parts of Colombia, faces significant social issues, including the pervasive threats of human trafficking and drug-related violence. Our latest story map for S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth, Inc. showcases the organization’s critical work in providing mental health support to youth and families on Long Island who are facing the greatest challenges. The organization began over 20 years ago in response to young people being killed by gang violence, and since then has expanded to provide holistic support to youth, families, and entire communities. In 2022, Oklahoma banned trans students from bathrooms. Now a 16-year-old student, Nex Benedict, is dead after a fight in a school bathroom. Nex should still be alive today—and all of us have a responsibility to create a world where trans youth can thrive.
