In 2022, Oklahoma banned trans students from bathrooms. Now a 16-year-old student, Nex Benedict, is dead after a fight in a school bathroom. Nex should still be alive today—and all of us have a responsibility to create a world where trans youth can thrive. Here are 7 suggestions for organizations to support that are actively working to defend and empower trans youth. There are many more. The Trans Justice Funding Project, a fund at Tides Foundation, has created a map showing grassroots trans-led groups in every state in America: https://lnkd.in/dGfWydj2

If only progressive philanthropists would spend even a fraction of the money being poured into dismantling public education in our country, we might actually be able to save this fundamental pillar of democracy. We are in an existential struggle for the system of public education in our country, but no one seems to care enough to write a check, and certainly not at the scale the Yass' and DeVos' are doing. https://lnkd.in/ebaTB_nF

Shoutout Wieden + Kennedy for using their resources/platform to speak truth into the world and bring awareness to such an important issue - censorship & an outright agenda to erase our history. It’s powerful to be on the frontlines of activist advertising. We need more reputable brands to engage in freedom fighting and civil leadership. To stand up for what is right. WK leading the way as always!! Epitome of a brand led by strong values and principles ✊🏼📈🔥#AdMagicClassOf2023 #AdMagicAlumni
Book bans in American public schools are on the rise, increasing by 33% over the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year, according to nonprofit PEN America. And diversity, equity and inclusion education is under attack—just last month in Florida, the Board of Governors banned public funding of DEI programs across state universities. A new campaign from agency Wieden + Kennedy+Kennedy New York and COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION GLOBAL FOUNDATION highlights the dangers of such bans and censorship, particularly to marginalized communities. “America Erased” aims to spark a movement defending students’ freedom to learn about their country’s complete history. https://adweek.it/3T6japE

#TriviaTuesday is highlighting Back 2 School America 🎓 Back 2 School America's roots go back to 2007. What started as a small community relations program by the Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois provided 175 children with school supplies has grown in a nationwide program that has served over 375,000+ children across the country! As the program evolved, supplies were distributed in the form of Back 2 School kits, each containing the core supplies that students need to succeed in the classroom. To facilitate the distribution of these kits, partnerships were developed with a numerous community organizations and government agencies. In 2015, a Build-A-Kit initiative, which allows companies to purchase school supplies in bulk and assemble them into kits, as part of a team building exercise, helped to accelerate the growth of the Back 2 School program. While the Back 2 School program remains the main thrust of B2SA’s efforts, the organization also offers other programs that fit within the guidelines of their mission. Back 2 School America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide school supplies and other tools throughout the year to ensure educational success of children in need across the USA. ACTION ALERT: CCAP AGAIN ON THE RADAR Yesterday, Ellevate Louisiana Louisiana leadership issued a critical warning regarding the potential cut of funds for Early Childhood Education. The legislature is set to hear testimonies on HB1, with $24 million in funding at stake. It is crucial for all of us to act swiftly to safeguard the future of our children and families in Louisiana. Many are unaware of the impact this cut could have, especially non-English speaking families. I urge you, dear friends, to reach out to your representatives and emphasize the urgency of preserving this funding. The repercussions extend beyond the next generation to families currently struggling to make ends meet, teetering on the edge of poverty. Let's leverage our connections and influence on platforms like LinkedIn to advocate for those who lack a voice. Take a stand today by contacting your representative; cutting 2000 spots when we should be expanding access to over 6000 simply doesn't add up. In response to this alarming news, I will be translating this information into Spanish to share with the families and organizations in our community. What steps will you take?, let's do it! #CCAP #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Advocacy #Louisiana #CommunitySupport ##EarlyChildhoodEdLouisiana

"Putting power in the hands of citizen assemblies is a popular idea in Europe. It hasn’t found nearly as much traction in the United States, but advocates hope it can be a salve for the country’s toxic division." Bend, Oregon is hosting one of the only Citizens' Assemblies in the country, utilizing small-D democracy to solve our most intractable problems. George Anders of The Chronicle of Philanthropy spoke with assembly members and hosts DemocracyNext, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Omidyar Network about this radical experiment in solving youth homelessness.
