Our teams have been working hard to help our community recover from the recent weather events. We were proud to provide grocery store gift cards for over 330 Joliet residents at the Will County/City of Joliet Sharefest last week, and support victims of the recent tornadoes. It was a pleasure to join in on this effort as we work to provide relief to community members. #community #TeamJoliet

When someone on the street asks you for help... Knowing what to give someone who is homeless can be difficult. Here are some ideas: 1. Consider giving them a “blessing bag." Keep your car stocked with gallon-sized zipper bags containing things like packaged snacks, socks, bottled water, hand warmers, a rain poncho, or even a bus pass. 2. Instead of giving out cash, give out grocery store or coffee shop gift cards. These are great because it often gives those without a home a chance to get indoors out of the elements. 3. Give them a Union Mission Emergency Info Card. Click here to print some! ⬇️ https://ow.ly/cJg850QrMV5 4. Offer to pray with them. If you don't have anything on hand, but feel prompted to give, ask their name and if they'd like for you to pray for them, their family or loved ones. A simple prayer can perhaps offer more hope than any other single thing. Never underestimate the power of one single, good deed towards another 💙 #CaringLikeChrist

We are about a lot more than just dogs and horses! 🐴🐾 As much as we love the Seattle Police Department’s four-legged law enforcement professionals, raising money for K9 and Mounted Patrol is just a small part of our work to help improve public safety in Seattle. 🚓 During our most recent grant process we awarded funding to SPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team for two new communications aides, a hailer and BRINC Ball. These innovative tools are essential to the HNT’s work to deescalate critical incidents, helping to facilitate productive communication between the person in crisis and SPD negotiators. SPD’s HNT is an unfunded entity, yet its work is crucial to public safety in Seattle as it typically responds to 150 to 180 incidents per year. The HNT is routinely deployed on intense, high-risk calls alongside of SWAT, and the two teams work together seamlessly thanks to rigorous training and a shared commitment to keeping Seattle community members safe. 🤝 A BRINC Ball is a lightweight, durable handheld two-way communication device, which can be used in tense situations when face-to-face communication isn’t an option. Seattle-based BRINC created the BRINC Ball to be tough! In the case of a barricaded subject, the BRINC Ball can be thrown into a scene or even dropped into a room from 10-feet above. 🔵☎️📞📢 This added hailer system (PA speaker) and BRINC Ball helps set the HNT up for success by ensuring they have the equipment they need to do their work. Thanks to all our loyal donors whose support helps us fill these funding gaps! 𝘉𝘙𝘐𝘕𝘊 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘙𝘐𝘕𝘊

California faces significant challenges, from intensifying heat waves due to climate change to unsafe working conditions. Our recent victory for indoor workers is just the beginning. We're working to ensure proper heat standards in all workplaces and increase enforcement to protect employees. We need your support to address the conditions in correctional facilities and replace them with a proper indoor heat standard. Additionally, for laws and regulations to be effective, authorities must enforce them and focus on Cal/OSHA recruiting more enforcement officers. Your donation today can make a significant difference in creating a safer California for all. Every contribution is a step toward our shared goal, no matter how small. We appreciate your support and look forward to making a positive impact together! bit.ly/4cpBZLq #CaliforniaWorkers #ClimateAction #ExtremeHeat

What you’ll need: - Fleece fabric (amount varies with blanket size) or a fleece blanket kit - Fabric scissors or a rotary cutter - Optional but helpful: masking tape and a T-shaped ruler Instructions: - Gather your family to watch this 3-minute video (available on our website) about the difference a blanket can make in a child’s life. - Take your children to the store (or search together online) to buy soft fleece fabric with patterns you like. Or buy a fleece blanket kit. - See blanket-making instructions - find links to written and video instructions on our website: https://lnkd.in/ggAFYcHb Reflection questions: - Do you have a blanket or something soft and cuddly that you love? How do you feel when you hold it? - Why would a blanket bring comfort to a child who is scared or having a difficult time? - How would you feel if you had to spend the night at the hospital, or had to be separated from your parents for some reason? What would help you feel better? - How else can we make children who are hurt or scared feel safe and loved?
