For many, celebrating Independence Day means fireworks, family and time off. However, for others in our community, it means that food programs are shuttered or have reduced hours. Before the holiday, please consider making a donation 💗 to your local food shelf. If your gift is products, please make sure to provide hygiene items 🪥🧼🧴 in addition to food. Hygiene insecurity and food insecurity go hand-in-hand. Let’s support more basic needs of our neighbors. The Food Group makes it easy to find your local #foodshelf >> (https://lnkd.in/g8rFqazh ) #foodinsecurity #hygieneinsecurity #basicneeds #endhunger

Why should I register to participate? There are several reasons why we ask walkers to register electronically prior to the day of the event. They are: When a walker registers their own personal WALK web page is automatically generated. You also receive a hyperlink to your WALK web page that you can send to family and friends asking them to sponsor your participation in the WALK. They can do that easily online, on your web page, using a credit card. Approximately 7-10 days before the event, HA sends all registered walkers important information about the WALK (what time to arrive, directions to the event, where to park, where to go when you arrive, what to bring to the WALK, what NOT to bring to the WALK, etc.) We can’t send the information if a walker isn’t registered. The volunteer Logistics Committee works very hard to ensure that everything is in place for a fun and safe day for all. This includes securing donations of food, beverages, supplies, etc. The Logistics Committee needs an approximation of how many people will be participating to ensure that they have enough food, TShirts, beverages, etc. for everyone. When walkers don’t register – or don’t register until the last week – the Logistics Committee then has to scramble trying to “fill in” – often resulting in HA having to purchase something that could have been donated with more time. Please don’t think “I’m only one walker – one more won’t make a difference.” Unfortunately, hundreds of people think that! Please help the Logistics Committee by registering all of the walkers on your team as early as possible! https://lnkd.in/e45GWQ88 #HAWalk_Columbia #WorkingTogetherToMakeADifference

Our industry has seen many victories, but we still need to make it over the finish line. Sept. 30 marks the deadline for when the governor signs or vetoes the bills that passed the legislature. Until that deadline, the CRA will stay active on a handful of essential bills. SB 969, a CRA-supported bill, is one that aims to restore downtowns still hurting from the pandemic by allowing local governments to establish "entertainment zones" where restaurants can sell alcohol for street fairs, festivals, and other outdoor public events. The legislation is intended to help bring people and events back to communities all over the state, provide sufficient public safety guardrails and community involvement, and remove an economic barrier that previously prohibited restaurants from participating in sales. And you've heard from us before on the gift card bill - SB 1272 - which proposed to require businesses to cash out any balances of $25 or less. Sabrina updates us on what happened with these key issues and what's next in this week's News You Need to Know. WINNING FOR CALIFORNIA RESTAURANTS Your voice matters when it comes to CRA's advocacy efforts. Without our restaurateurs, victories like the reform to stop lawsuit abuse (PAGA) would not be possible. Better together! Our collaboration with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York was shared in Feeding America's Impact Report. Five days a week, our drivers collect food from participating retailers, including Price Chopper/Market 32, Hannaford, Walmart, Target, and Aldi, and deliver the groceries to Rev. Phil Food Pantry run by Schenectady Community Ministries, AMEN Food Pantry and Catholic Charities of Montgomery County. The food collected includes meat, dairy and produce - items that are not always available at food pantries. So glad to be making an impact right here in our community. Co-Founder at Centsei | We coach clients to systematize their finances in 90 days and start saving an extra 5k-20k/yr consistently.
A home-cooked dinner every night with a vegetable on the side. As a kid, that was “normal” for me. But when I worked at a non-profit after college and taught nutrition to low-income families, I learned just how many people see Mcdonald's as the cheaper option over buying groceries. Why? Because one option can buy you a full meal while the other buys you bags of ingredients. If you don’t know what to do with all that food, then the fast-food route does seem easier, faster, and cheaper. It opened my eyes to how mindset affects our choices. Sometimes the choices aren’t always as clear. We need to see the choice’s potential. What other areas of your budget have choices with “potential”? If you’re not sure, here’s a great way to find out: https://lnkd.in/eiXsuhpe
