📢 Join Us for a Crucial Conversation on Regenerative Agriculture in California 📢 As interest in regenerative agriculture grows, California is working to define the term as it applies to state agriculture policies and programs. By defining “regenerative agriculture" and its associated practices, the state aims to establish a framework for what it means to farm regeneratively, and how these practices protect, sustain, and enhance natural resources on California farms and in our communities. A clear definition will promote these methods and ensure #transparency for consumers who are increasingly wary of greenwashing and competing sustainability claims. The California Department of Food and Agriculture is hosting virtual public listening sessions to gather input from businesses, organizations, and consumers as they develop this definition, with the next session scheduled for May 29 at 4:30pm PT. As a leading organic winery that farms more than 850 acres using regenerative organic practices, Bonterra Organic Estates team members will be attending this session to lend our voice for a definition of regenerative agriculture that includes a baseline foundation of organic. We invite you to join us in shaping the future of regenerative agriculture in California! Artisan Spotlight: Greg Reese - The Path to Regenerative Agriculture Dig into the principles of regenerative agriculture with Greg Reese (a.k.a "Farmer Greg" 🥕), our land steward and farmer at Fox Point Farms. The farm serves as the center of our community and channels produce to our onsite artisan collective. We prioritize the cultivation of healthy, biodiverse soil so that vibrant, nutrient-dense crops can be offered to the community at our restaurant, brewery, farmstand, and apothecary. Did you know that regenerative agriculture emphasizes practices like no-till farming, cover cropping, and chemical-free methods to promote microbial diversity and regenerate the land's fertility? This approach minimizes our carbon footprint and ensures the long-term sustainability of the land, offering our customers environmentally responsible food choices. #RegenerativeFarming #Encinitas #SanDiegoCounty #SouthernCalifornia #EncinitasLiving #EncinitasCA #VisitEncinitas #EncinitasLocal #EncinitasEats #socal #sandiego #sdfoodie

Let's talk Regenerative Certifications. Currently Whole Foods Market carries products from only 3 regenerative certifications. - Regenified™ - Regenerative Organic Alliance - Land to Market And WF is "actively supporting several independent organizations in their efforts to develop more certifications." What are your thoughts on regenerative certifications? Do we need them? How are the current ones? Do we need to have a handful of them or one standard one? Should they be principle or practice or outcome driven? How do we prevent regenerative certifications from being negatively co-opted? Or should we allow the government to define "regenerative agriculture"? Curious to hear what everyone thinks about the current landscape of #regenerativeagriculture certifications? I know there are a lot of varying opinions and perspectives out there, so I want to open up this post for discussion. https://lnkd.in/epz-EXKN #soilhealth #sustainableagriculture #farming #agriculture #organicfarming #cpg #food #certification #organic

While organic farming prioritizes eliminating harmful synthetic chemicals and fertilizers...regenerative agriculture takes a broader, ecosystem-based approach. Much of which is targeted at improving soil health to improve productivity. Imagine a thriving hop yard: regenerative practices foster a web of life between hops, beneficial fungi, insects, and microbes. This holistic approach aims to give back to the soil more than it takes. Techniques like increasing biodiversity and the use of integrating nitrogen-fixing plants in hop drive rows, like legumes mimic natural cycles, allowing the land to replenish itself after each harvest. This creates a resilient and productive system that benefits not just the hops, but the entire brewing ecosystem across the globe. Our growers are doing some pretty fascinating things out there - check out the article to learn a bit more about the practices implemented by our hop heroes. Cheers to regenerative Ag! 🌱🍻
At Yakima Chief Hops, we are committed to leading proactive land stewardship through storytelling, education, and advocacy. Our dedication to regenerative agriculture is reflected in our Green Chief® Program, which promotes sustainable practices that benefit our growers and the environment. There has long been a misconception that agriculture negatively impacts the environment and that crops only take from the land. But what if we told you there's an approach to farming that contributes to the land while still allowing farmers to reap a bountiful harvest? It's called regenerative agriculture. Read our recent blog "The Role of Regenerative Agriculture in Sustainable Hop Production" to learn the importance of regenerative agriculture in the beer industry and its potential to mitigate the effects of climate change associated with traditional farming practices. Following on from the topic of Clarkson’s Farm, you might not recognise this person but you’ll have certainly heard his music! Andy Cato, half of the legendary electronic music duo Groove Armada, is a champion for regenerative agriculture. Following a long and successful stint in the music industry, Cato bought a farm and helped to form the origins for an exciting company called Wildfarmed. So, what is it? Wildfarmed uses regeneratively grown wheat to produce flour, bread, pizza dough, and other products. The aim is to make more nutritious food with a lower environmental impact. Wildfarmed promotes a method of farming that prioritizes improving soil health and biodiversity. It does this by minimizing artificial inputs like pesticides and herbicides. Meaning that consumers can know the source of their food and understand the regenerative practices used to grow it. In essence, it is a response to the negative impacts of conventional agriculture. They strive for a more sustainable future for food production by promoting methods that are good for the environment, farmers, and consumers. It's another great example of the show using it's platform to spotlight innovative solutions in the industry. I'd like to do the same on LinkedIn, so if anyone knows of similar businesses who deserve a shout out, tag them in the comments section below! #agriculture #farming #wheat #clarksonsfarm

🍇 In the Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, a new network-based initiative is uniting farmers, manufacturers, scientists, NGOs and major brands to ensure that grains, grapes and other crops entering global supply chains are grown using regenerative methods. Operated by Preferred by Nature and supported by Nestlé Purina and Consorzio di Tutela della DOC Prosecco, the Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) bring together key stakeholders to form an 'ecosystem' of organisations. 🧑🌾 This network aims to advance regenerative farming practices in regions known for producing one of the world’s most famous sparkling wines and key ingredients for Nestlé Purina’s pet food. 🌱 As part of the LENs project, Matteo Lissandro, a young local farmer from Veneto, has begun applying regenerative techniques to the 500 hectares of farmland that his family has managed with conventional methods for four generations. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gt-TxXqr 3Keel

Restorative is a great marketing word since regenerative tends to suffer from the same misunderstanding or interpretation as sustainable. You end up having to define during the sale process, which can be cumbersome. Restoration covers a lot of those terms. There is such an important need for proper positioning and messaging of these practices so that they are meaningful to our consumers. #chicken #meatindustry #regenerativeagriculture Shelley Seed Mike Kotelko Larry Dalton Shiana Younger Understanding Ag, LLC - Experts in Regenerative Ag Regenerative Agriculture Venture Programme #regenerativeleadership #sustainability Kipster Sandra Vijn
With consumer interest in regenerative agriculture greatly increasing, farmers are wondering where the bridge lies that connects those consumers to the producer and more importantly, how can the farmer be compensated for management practices that regenerate soil health and biodiversity? Vital Farms recently released an organic egg marketed as "Restorative" with a price point of $10.99 per dozen. The product is certified Regenified, a certifying body co-founded by Gabe Brown. Shortly after it's launch, the product climbed to the top ten SKUS at Whole Foods Market, despite having a much higher price tag than it's competitors.
