We've been doing a lot of listening by calling our customers and potential shareholders and one big issue has been coming up again and again: food insecurity in the context of food waste. How can we have this shocking problem in Australia when 25% of our produce never leaves the farm because its not pretty enough for supermarkets? One of the things we are most proud about at Good & Fugly is growing the impact we can have helping the food insecure by fighting food waste. Especially when it comes to our kids, 1 in 4 of them go to school without enough to eat. And only 1 in 7 kids get enough fruit and veg. With the cost-of-living crisis this is bound to get worse, but it shouldn't have to. This issue has prompted us to do some extra good with our Birchal raise. For every $1,000 raised during the private offer period, we are committing to giving 5 boxes of fruit and veg to disadvantaged schools where food insecurity is a day-to-day reality for their kids.. If you want to get on board, why not check out our page https://lnkd.in/dhQPSE3i The photo is of the proud winners of G&F's contest to find Australia's Fugliest Fruit or Veg --a much-loved primary school garden and the students and teacher who tend it. Yesterday was a productive day at Parliament House! Ronni Kahn AO joined fellow CEOs of our sector, Brianna Casey from Foodbank Australia and Daniel Moorfield from SecondBite to drive awareness and action on the pressing national issues of food waste and food security and the urgent need for Federal funding. There were lots of positive conversations supporting the Food Donation Tax Incentive with Senator Dean Smith and Senator Perin Davey. Food waste is firmly on the table with Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek and we’re excited to see this on the national agenda for 2024. There has never been a more important time to support what we do. Collectively, we provide over 80% of the total food relief nationally and feed over a million people per month. There is no doubt that we are in a food crisis as the cost of living continues to rise, so does demand for our services. Our job is to make sure that edible food is not wasted and goes to feed those who need it most. As a sector we are feeling and reeling from the need and our ask to Government is to help us put food on the table for those who need it most. #foodwaste #foodsecurity #zerohunger #halvefoodwaste #sdgs #environment #change

Today is California Association of Food Banks’ (CAFB) Capitol Action Day. This is an annual advocacy event brings state’s food bankers and clients together to demand an end to hunger. On the agenda is the CalFood Budget. CAFB is requesting to appropriate $60M General Fund for CalFood in 2025-2026 & ongoing to sustain current & ongoing demand at food banks. #CalFood funds: 🍊 Enable food banks to purchase CA-grown foods to meet their communities’ diverse needs. 💵 Are incredibly efficient: each $1 enables CA food banks to provide approximately five meals. 🧑🏾🌾 Provide a significant return on investment: even a 1% drop in hunger saves CA $600 million in prevented healthcare costs, as well as supporting our hard-hit farmers & food producers in our food economy. We need your continued support #CAleg Scott Wiener @asmJesseGabriel. Please fulfill our request for critical ongoing #CalFood funds, a lifeline for communities facing hunger! h/t Senator John Laird and Asm. BuffyWicks

There is a plan to save the equivalent of 100 million meals a year by 2030, deliver a $2 billion social return investment and provide a tax break for primary producers, food processors, manufacturers and wholesalers, logistics and transport industry. What is the plan? The National Food Donation Tax Incentive. Yesterday Brianna Casey joined the CEOs from food relief sector organisations, Ronni Kahn AO OzHarvest and Daniel Moorfield SecondBite at Parliament House in Canberra, to drive awareness of this critical tax reform and to seek action on the national crisis of food insecurity which calls on the need for Federal funding. There were lots of positive conversations supporting the National Food Donation Tax Incentive with Dean Smith and Senator Perin Davey. I’m delighted to share this #animation I developed for the From Now On Fund and Better Food Policy Council. It’s always a pleasure to encounter #nonprofits doing important work. #FoodPolicyCouncils fly under the radar but are crucial in addressing health and equity issues around #foodaccess and #community https://lnkd.in/gcaN2RKX
