In collaboration with its supplier partners, Mars Food has committed to producing the equivalent of more than 3 million meals over twelve months for Foodbank. Since 2020, Mars Food have been helping turn our ‘surprise chain’ into a supply chain by donating a regular supply of pantry staples from Dolmio and MasterFoods through its Collaborative Supply Program with Foodbank. Last week, generous supplier partners including Visy, Baker & Co, Kikkoman, Toll Group and Ingredion Incorporated came together with Mars and Foodbank to celebrate the program and the impact it is making on the lives of those going without. We thank the support of Mars and its suppliers – your generosity helps us get food on the dinner tables of millions of Australians doing it tough right now. Our Mission: deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way.
About us
Foodbank is a food relief organisation that partners with the entire Australian food and grocery sector to supply front-line charities nationally with the stocks they need to address hunger in the community. This involves working with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source fresh and manufactured foods as well as personal and household items for those in need. Donations include stock that doesn’t meet industry specifications, is close to expiry or excess to requirements. Companies also make donations as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments and cause-related marketing campaigns. Foodbank supplies food and groceries to more than 2,950 charities and also provides regular breakfasts for students in 2,890 schools across the country. As a not-for-profit organisation, Foodbank relies on governments, individuals, organisations, community groups and thousands of volunteers to fight hunger.

Our partnership with Chobani Australia and Woolworths Supermarkets created 1.58 million meals for Australians in need. 1.58 million, just let that sink in. For every tub of Foodbank-branded Chobani yoghurt sold exclusively at Woolworths during the campaign, six meals were donated to Foodbank to go towards sourcing and distributing fresh fruit and veg to those going without. At a time when over 40% of food insecure households are cutting down on fresh fruit and vegetables (Foodbank Hunger Report 2024), this partnership is crucial for getting nutritious food to those that need it. We are grateful for the support of Chobani, Woolworths and everyone that got involved in the campaign by purchasing a pot of yoghurt - together, we can make a difference. #EndHunger #ZeroHunger #FoodInsecurity #FoodRelief #HungerReport

Spaghetti Bolognese – a delicious staple that finds its way onto the dinner table week after week. But for many Australians, a simple dinner like this is a luxury and gets dropped off the shopping list when times get tough. This is why Dolmio, in partnership with Sodexo and Foodbank, converted their R&D kitchen into a meal-prepping hub to cook up more than 7,000 meals of delicious spaghetti bolognese over the course of one week this month. The meals will be distributed to people going without across the NSW Central Coast and were made of Dolmio Bolognese sauce, fresh veggies, beef or lentils, and the generosity of volunteers from Dolmio, Sodexo, Coast Shelter and Foodbank. The response to the Foodbank Hunger Report 2024 has been overwhelming but inspiring – Australians are deeply concerned about what this report has revealed and they want to help. It’s clear that people in a position to do so want to support the single-parents skipping meals so that their children can eat, the everyday families cutting down on fresh fruit & vegetables just to make ends meet and the low-income households who are simply being left behind as we continue to weather the cost-of-living crisis. I’m grateful to the many media outlets who have provided us the opportunity to help give a voice to those who otherwise may not have one. The stories are often confronting, but they're becoming increasingly common in our local communities. Speaking with Network 10 News on Tuesday, we zeroed in on exactly what it means for someone to be severely food insecure, where the pockets of hardship in Australia are, and what is driving this continued demand for food relief right across the country. Hunger shouldn’t be a part of any family's story, but for too many, it is. Single-parent households are facing some of the toughest challenges when it comes to putting food on the table. In the past year, 69% have experienced food insecurity, and for 41%, the situation is severe. This means they are skipping meals, reducing portions, or even going whole days without eating. These are real families, real parents sacrificing so their children can eat, all while carrying the weight of uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. Food shouldn’t be a luxury, but for many, it's becoming just that. As Australian households grapple with the rising cost of living, many are forced to cut back on food, groceries, and energy—or turn to credit to make ends meet. For those already facing food insecurity, relying on debt only deepens the financial strain, making it even harder to recover. In Australia, the gap between those who can manage rising costs and those being left behind is growing. The Foodbank Hunger Report 2024, released today, uncovers a confronting reality: 2 million households have faced severe food insecurity this year. That could include your neighbours, friends, family members, or coworkers. It’s a heartbreaking figure that shines a light on the daily struggles of too many Australians wondering where their next meal will come from. To end hunger in Australia, we must end food waste. It’s hard to believe that Australia produces enough food to feed everyone three times over, yet last year 3.7 million households struggled to put food on the table. Clearly, something needs to change. At Foodbank, we believe food belongs in bellies, not bins. That’s why we’re dedicated to reducing food waste while helping those in need. Last year alone, we sourced 92 million meals – a win for both people and the planet. 🌱 But we know Australia’s food system must change to end hunger and waste. That’s why we’re advocating for a National Food Donation Tax Incentive, a policy that could unlock an additional 100 million meals each year by 2030. This smart, simple solution encourages farmers and small businesses to donate surplus food, reducing waste and feeding those in need. We’re calling on the Australian Government to take action. With millions of Australians struggling with the cost of living crisis, there’s never been a more urgent time for change. #EndWaste #FoodWaste #EndHunger #Sustainability #NationalFoodDonationTaxIncentive #InternationalFoodLossAndWasteDay

Our friends at Foodbank SA & NT have hit an incredible milestone – distributing over 2 million kilograms of fruit and vegetables in a single year to people in need across SA and NT, free of charge. This milestone was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of the South Australian Produce Market Limited , local growers, and more than 100 horticulture businesses. Together, they've helped Foodbank SA & NT reach over 150,000 people each month, including a third who are children, with fresh, nutritious food. It's a bittersweet achievement. While it showcases the power of partnerships, it also highlights the heartbreaking reality of hunger in Australia. #EndHunger #CommunitySupport #FreshProduce #FoodRelief
