I partner with companies in the AEC space to find Top Design Talent | Recruiting Architects, Engineers, Construction and Development talent | AEC Recruiter & Owner @ Talent-Smiths Recruiting
Let's talk about Job Postings that lead to great talent joining your team. (it's not always easy) Job posting isn't the easiest topic to cover because architecture and engineering are very specialized. firms need to cover things like: - Experience - Licensure - Project Sector Experience - Do they need on-site experience - Leadership experience - Software knowledge The list goes on! I'm my experience, these tips have helped attract the right talent to whatever role you may be filling. KEEP IT HONEST Lean into what you know about the job. people want to find a great place to work, and unless the post is super honest about expectations, skills needed + company standards you may be attracting the wrong people. SELL THE COMPANY Most job posts tell candidates what they should be able to do but miss arguably the most important part... Sell why someone would love your company. Tell them about your awesome projects they could work on, and let them know about employee day-to-day and benefits. Make the environment and growth opportunities as attractive as the salary number. PREFORM A ROLE AUDIT Prepare for any job posting by spending time being super proactive about what exactly the role entails. what skills are required at what level? If Revit knowledge is a must, make that well known, and dive deep enough to make sure it's not taken as "surface level knowledge" when it's a skill you need. All these being said, I always find great job descriptions get candidates excited to apply, they bring the right talent to your door and make everything easier from day one. PLUS! No one likes to start a job and feel deceived!!

If you are actively applying for architectural positions, make sure to submit a CV that is easy to read and focuses on your skills and experiences. ☝ Your CV goes hand in hand with your Sample Portfolio and shouldn't be longer than 1-2 pages or larger than 5MB in size. 👩🏫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐕 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: File type: PDF Font type: Easy to read fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri Font size: 10-11 Pages: Ideally 1 - 2 Subheader: Make subheaders bold and increase the font size Structure: Always start with your most recent work experience and use bulletpoints Naming your file: First and last name - CV. (i.e. Jane Doe - CV) 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐨: ✅ Always write the job title underneath your name - i.e. ARB Architect, Architectural Technologist, Part 1 Architectural Assistant, Overseas Qualified Architect, etc. ✅ Start with your most recent work experience. List your job title, company name, location (city, country), and duration (month, year) ✅ When listing your responsibilities, answer some of these questions: - What did you work on? i.e. new build/refurb/extension - residential, commercial, mixed-use - in the UK, Middle East etc. - Can you provide details on the scale or value of the projects? - Which RIBA Stages were you involved in? - What were your specific responsibilities? (i.e. design, team leadership, site visits, technical detailing, presentations, mentoring) - Which software did you use? ✅ List your Software and Soft Skills and include them on the first page. ✅ Instead of providing a QR Code or a link to your online Portfolio, submit your Sample Portfolio as a separate PDF file. ✅ Your CV must complement your Sample Portfolio - i.e. if you mentioned your design and technical skills, the hiring manager or recruiter should see evidence of that in your portfolio. ---- If you feel stuck with your CV, you can read my article on "How to Write and Structure an Architecture CV" 😊 I will leave the link in the comments below. 👇 #CV #Architecture #Careers #Resume ArchJobs

The construction industry is facing a quicker and perhaps, more impactful shift in the market than anticipated. This has been challenging for individuals who experienced layoffs or reduced work hours in recent months, as a consequence of businesses shutting and projects being put on extended hold. As such, I thought to share some job search tips which I found that many candidates wish they'd known sooner: 1. Widen your search with Google Maps + search engines. Try searching up various combinations of keywords: "architectural practice", "architecture company", "architecture studio", "multidisciplinary consultancy", "engineering consultancy", "property developer", "construction company"... 2. Use LinkedIn as an online CV and networking tool. It is also great to get more info about a company from there - including the general "feel" of it, the kinds of people that work there, turnover rates, and posts about job vacancies. 3. Avoid relying on one method of job seeking, or waiting around for job advertisements to pop up. Employers who are looking, do not always post job ads because of poor results tied to the increasing costs of posting them. 4. Apply to companies directly wherever possible (unless company has specified otherwise) - with a customised email intoduction and CV attached. You never know if someone's hiring or are planning to hire soon, so if there's a company you're keen on, just ask (they would reply if they're keen on you too)! 5. Don't put all your eggs in one basket: A company typically only has a few roles available at a time (or even just 1). Create your own shortlist of companies and include in your email introduction - the reasons that particular company piqued your interest - to help yours stand out even further. Good jobs are not found with minimal effort, because it requires time to research possibilities, evaluate your priorities, and find ways to be creative/inquisitive about the process. All the best! #assemblelimited #nowhiring #architecturaltechnician #BIMmanager #NZarchitecture
