It is DEI week at Danone!!!
Danone is celebrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) this week, which is an opportunity to celebrate differences and promote greater equity and inclusion. And, for me, this extends to different ways of thinking and working.
Because there is incredible value in the diversity of ideas. Untapped novelty, new ways of seeing the business, and immense potential to enhance performance. Plus, when people feel as if their ideas are listened to and appreciated, it creates engagement. We all know: that’s good for business.
But to get to there, leaders need to be ready and willing to let go. To question the unspoken protocols and norms; to encourage people to speak out, voice their opinions, and drive out-of-the-box thinking – no matter their hierarchical position.
In this respect, probably the most critical ingredient of an inclusive recipe is, for leaders, the creation of a REAL safe space. A space where everyone feels free to speak, and to give constructive feedback.
In my past life, I had a boss who taught me one important lesson. He was always saying to me and to others: “Roberto, you take the risk, I take the blame!” No need to explain.
If you know that whatever you say or propose is with good intentions, and can’t get you in trouble, all of a sudden, you feel more included, become more vocal, and the entire organization benefits, by tapping into the innovative power of all its employees. At Danone, we want to be in this together, embrace Inclusion, which is the first step towards Equity and Diversity.

1wIt is in the treatment of more unusual cases that it is possible to confirm or not the ethics of a company. Does Ferrero have an ethical stance towards its employees? Does Ferrero fulfill its commitments to its employees? What happens when an employee doesn't respect Ferrero's manual of principles? Does the company take corrective actions? I'm photographing this page in case you delete my questions!
