FinePoint is exceptionally proud to have sponsored our System Specialist, Jeffrey Kurtz, for his #BikeMS: MS 150 Minnesota 2024 ride over the weekend. Bike MS is the largest fundraising cycling series in the world. Nearly 50,000 cyclists and more than 5,000 teams ride together each year to change the world for people with MS. Jeffrey rides for his mother, who was diagnosed with MS when he was a freshman in college and passed away in 2015. Over the years, he has ridden over 15,000 miles in over 80 combined events. This year was his 28th MS 150 ride. The Minnesota event had over 2000 participants and raised almost 2 million dollars. We want to thank Jeffrey for his continued efforts and extend our appreciation to all the riders and volunteers who make these events possible nationwide. You can learn more about this and other MS events at https://lnkd.in/eDsDU6SJ #MS150

This Sunday I will attempt my second IRONMAN triathlon. This involves a 3.8km ocean swim in stunning Palm Cove, a 180km ride from Palm Cove to Cairns, and back again, followed by a 42.2km marathon run. And after not being able to run the full marathon at the Busselton IRONMAN in December, I’ve been keen for redemption. My approach for Cairns IRONMAN has been simple. I thought through the key ingredients for success - develop a strategy, grind, assess and refine - and stuck to them. My strategy was to nail each component of my preparation. First, my training. This meant hitting every training session - morning and night. Second, my nutrition. I focused on preparing good food that’s easy to make, nutritious and tastes great. Third, my recovery. I prioritised sleep, stretching, and managing stress. This meant limiting alcohol… but don’t worry, I ate more than double my weight in dark chocolate. The results have been incredible. I’ve dropped almost 10kg this year, which is a lot less weight to carry for 12+ hours during a race. I have also improved my swim, bike and run times, and I am mentally more focused and stronger than ever. And while triathlon is an “individual sport” it’s really not - because I couldn’t have done this without a lot of support. Support from my coach, colleagues, club, family, friends, and the broader triathlon community. So with this in mind, I want to dedicate my race on Sunday to a special group of people who’ve inspired me. The TRIMOB. They are a powerful group of First Nations people empowering community through triathlon. Their purpose is to “breakdown barriers and create opportunities through culturally safe and strength based approaches that engage First Nations people to participate, compete and represent at all levels in the sport of triathlon”. And I absolutely love this. Check out their video below. If you’d like to follow my race, download the IRONMAN Oceania mobile app, select IRONMAN Cairns, Athletes, and type my name. Click Tracking and watch along from 9am AEST on Sunday 16 June to follow my progress. LET’S GET IT DONE.
So proud of our first IRONMOB group, who on May 5th showcased the strength and beauty of First Nations people. TRIMOB provided 18months of support to these athletes which included coaching, mentoring, coaching courses, event entries, travel costs, accomodation, race and training apparel and nutrition supplements. This was all done on a shoestring budget. Often people think we must be getting tons of government $$. Unfortunately often most government and corporate $$$ go towards non-Indigenous orgs who work with First Nations people and communities and First Nations led organisations miss out. We have never received a $$$ from any government agency and everyone who supports/ works for TRIMOB is a volunteer as every $$$ that we do have goes back into our programs. The growth and the impact of TRIMOB has already been huge and we are aiming to continue to expand and grow to empower more First Nations people. Our commitment is to continue the IRONMOB program and deliver more community and school based programs to empower more mob and improve their health & wellbeing through triathlon (swimming, biking and running). To the deadly partners who have supported TRIMOB we are beyond grateful. If you want to get behind TRIMOB Australia and support a First Nations driven and led organisation. You can donate to us here: https://lnkd.in/gJ4RjiUw Or better yet become a partner. UP THE MOB

It's inspiring to witness athletes like #CameronNorrie leading the charge in addressing climate change, ensuring the sustainability of sports in the face of environmental challenges. Additionally, the transition of sports grounds towards implementing carbon sink practices marks a positive shift, demonstrating proactive efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental stewardship. Furthermore, there's an exciting opportunity for corporate sponsorship to align with sustainability goals by supporting sporting initiatives that remove CO2e emissions and provide biodiversity gain associated with sports events. This not only benefits the environment but also enhances the reputation of both the corporations and the sports organizations involved, setting a commendable example for other industries to follow suit in combatting climate change.
🎾ICYMI: 5x ATP Tour Titleist, Cameron Norrie, has offset all 28 tournament trips in 2023 🗣️ “I try my best now to reduce my carbon footprint where I can, from cycling everywhere to taking the train when possible” he says 🏆 Norrie finished third on the Carbon Tracker leaderboard and donated $20,000 to Sported, a charity for sustainability initiatives at grassroots clubs and other young communities in the UK 🔖 Read: : https://lnkd.in/erd7GZNb #sportpositive #greensports #sportsforclimateaction #ATPTour #tennis

Good Works
It’s been a week and we’re not done yet. We’re usually head down, tail up as it were, doing what we do. Anything else is money / effort is wasted in helping those who come to us. But sometimes we’re need a lifter; a reminder…. So on Monday #federalgolfclub hosted the 2nd #sleepingrough golf tournament. Federal’s Golf Pro #mattmillar had brought it all together these past months. 140 played and over 160 attended the fundraising auction…. We also showed a video of Matt experiencing some of our front line services a few weeks back. A 20 hour day for some of my team and others at Vinnies, but to know the room was full of people, gave us a rare lift in person on behalf of all of us. Thank you.💕
