Good to see ASFI recognise there’s an essential role for finance in enabling clean energy projects which are founded on equitable First Nations partnerships. And that 'equitable clean energy partnerships can provide long-term economic and social benefits for First Nations communities.' And that 'these partnerships must be underpinned by free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) as an ongoing, dynamic process rather than a formality at the project’s outset. Project proponents must ensure First Nations communities are genuinely informed and real consent is sought throughout all stages of the project.'
Last month, the ASFI team were on Kaurna Country at the First Nations Clean Energy Symposium reflecting on how to ensure a clean energy transition that is just and prioritises community benefits. Read below for key highlights, brought to you by Tiarne Shutt, ASFI’s Program Lead; First Nations and Finance. “BGE Plans for Equitable Resiliency.” Here are a few insights from our latest article with Baltimore Gas and Electric, authored by Jared Leader and Ethan Holmes, released on T&D World.🌟 1️⃣ The energy industry's push for net-zero electric systems is evident. Utilities are strategically navigating #decarbonization, #electrification, and decentralization to align with #CarbonReduction goals. 2️⃣ SEPA emphasizes the need for utilities to enhance #GridResilience while ensuring an equitable energy transition. Adaptable systems, inclusive planning, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders are crucial to weathering the impact of #ClimateChange. 3️⃣ SEPA's planning toolkit reimagines utility planning. Focused on technology-agnostic, equity-driven solutions, it aids utilities like BGE in identifying and prioritizing resilient opportunities, aligning with state and federal mandates. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e8EjwBW6

Recently Stephanie Moroz, Innovation Manager, EDL shared her thoughts on some of the biggest game changers for energy in Queensland in the next 5 years. She talked about the required systems for this transition including “delivery of transmission, grid development and grid connections, all under a supportive regulatory environment. Additionally, these settings to further drive decarbonisation, such as fuel standards in transport, may support biomethane and other low carbon options.” You can download the Better Ideas Report and watch the full event replay here: https://bit.ly/QLDEnergy #qldpol #queensland #energytransition #sustainableenergy #QLDFutures #publicpolicy #auspol

#Australia can become a leader in the #carbon #capture utilisation and storage (#CCUS) business in Asia Pacific in the 2030s if more policy support and regulatory frameworks are forthcoming, Fauzi Said a senior analyst at energy research company Wood Mackenzie, told the Australian CCUS conference in Perth on Monday. Indeed, consistent, a-political application of policy and support, permitting and regulation, will be crucial, he warned. However, it is not yet clear if #CCS project approvals will get tangled up in the lawfare that Australia's big #gas projects, operated by Woodside Energy and Santos Ltd, have been hampered by recently. #carboncapture #energytransition https://lnkd.in/ghmqPjt3
