Santos is producing enough electricity to power 32,000 homes in New South Wales, using locally sourced natural gas. And while this is just the start of the region’s energy generating potential – the Narrabri Gas Project could be producing half the state’s gas demand – but complex and lengthy approvals and appeals processes have significantly delayed the project. The Santos Foundation supports initiatives that foster skills in communities that create broader economic opportunities – programs like this one, that enhance literacy development, have positive impacts that extend beyond the lives of those directly participating.

Setting Kids up for Success Mervita has seen her daughter, Balarose, excel in primary school six years on from graduating from the Santos Foundation Kikori Literacy Library. “The literacy library has helped myself and my children. With Balarose’s help, I am learning to read and write. My elder daughter who was struggling to read is now able to do so as well. Balarose teaches us to read using sounds that she learnt from the literacy library,” Mervita said. Mervita noted that the Santos Foundation’s early childhood learning program had not only helped her child read and write, but also helped instill a love of learning, which has motivated her to achieve her dreams. Now in grade five, Balarose said, “many people in Papua New Guinea die due to lack of medicines, so I want to be a botanist so that I can study plants and herbs to cure people.” Learn more about initiatives supported by the Santos Foundation: https://lnkd.in/gzFBKdvc #SantosFoundation #CommunityDevelopment #Education

Santos has a deep commitment to the Northern Territory and is investing in the Barossa Gas Project and Darwin LNG and other projects to bring local jobs, business opportunities and prosperity to Territory communities.  The business is entering an exciting new chapter in the NT as we approach first gas at Barossa in 2025 and extend the life of the Darwin LNG plant. Darwin will also be an important hub for the energy transition with our proposed Bayu-Undan CCS project. Small Grants Set up with an intention to improve lives through education, the Weimbal Early Childhood Centre in Nyamikum village in East Sepik Province, PNG was built by the local community without any external support. Community members collected building resources from the natural environment and community cash contributions to build a basic classroom with no desks or chairs. After seeing children sitting on the dirt floor in all forms of weather, including during the wet season, Santos contractor, Collin, applied for a small grant through the Santos Foundation to support the preparatory class at the learning centre. His successful application for funding secured the centre PGK5,000, (~$AUD2000) which covered the cost of 37 desks and chairs to be delivered to the learning centre, providing an improved learning environment for the children who can now more safely and comfortably sit to take part in their lessons at school. This National Tree Day, Santos GLNG partnered with Tondoon Botanic Gardens to give away 1,000 Port Curtis Region native seedlings to Gladstone locals. Native plants are essential to the conservation of biodiversity, which creates healthy ecosystems that clean our water, purify our air, maintain healthy soil, regulate the climate and provide us with food and other resources. Operating our LNG Facility on Curtis Island, off Gladstone, we understand the importance of protecting an area’s diverse and unique ecology and heritage for future generations and have supported the LNG Industry Offset Plan which sees 59 per cent of Curtis Island actively managed under a conservation management plan. We are proud to support National Tree Day with the roll out of these starter packs which include two native seedlings, potting mix, gardening globes and sunscreen. #NationalTreeDay

At Perth Children’s Hospital, Santos’ long-term partnership with Ronald McDonald House has paved the way for a Ground floor Family Room, and Kulunga Moort Mia, a culturally sensitive space where families can rest or meet together. These facilities are a place of respite for families visiting the hospital, including many who come from regional and remote WA. We are proud to continue our support to Ronald McDonald House and the care it gives families and kids in their time of need.

At Ronald McDonald House Charities WA, we play a unique role in enabling, facilitating, and supporting family-centred care within the Western Australian maternity, child and adolescent health systems. Our services extend far beyond the four walls of our supportive accommodation and include facilities like the Ronald McDonald Ground Floor Family Room in Perth Children's Hospital, made possible thanks to Santos Ltd. The purpose-built Ground Floor Family Room, which welcomed over 37,600 visitors in 2023, is fit with children's play areas, quiet zones, kitchen facilities with complimentary tea and coffee, computers with internet access and more. At no cost, the space is available to parents, carers, guardians and families of children undergoing inpatient or outpatient treatment at Perth Children's Hospital. The facility is also home to Kulunga Moort Mia, a culturally sensitive space where families can connect with Aboriginal culture. A heartfelt thank you to Santos Ltd for your continued support of the Ronald McDonald Ground Floor Family Room, which provides a home-away-from-home inside the hospital, away from the clinical environment of the wards. Santos is helping to provide economic opportunities to Papua New Guinean women with an initiative that will also benefit and to improve the health and nutrition of local families. The Santos-supported MOKUT Women Business Group recently won the ‘Outstanding Women’s Contribution in the Resource Industry Award’ at PNG Resources Week 2024. The business group and charitable initiative, which supports more than 200 women, teaches agricultural skills and delivers financial literacy training through its farms in the Moran and Kutubu regions, and also enables local women to earn a sustainable living from selling their farm produce, including eggs. We are proud to help grow this initiative which is making a difference in the lives of the women who are involved in the project. PNG Chamber of Resources & Energy
