When Kody Frazier and a fellow Marine went out for drinks, they did the responsible thing and got a car service to drive them home. On the way, a drunk driver hit their car, and Kody took the accident's impact. After being extubated in the ICU at 3 am, Kody's first words were, "Where's Memaw?" Grandma, Carolyn Winn, was staying at Fisher House San Diego and rushed up to the hospital to see Kody. 📷 Kody's mother, Lisa Loggains, captured this very special moment between Kody and his Grandmother, Memaw. #FisherHouse #HomeAwayFromHome #Marines #loveisgoodmedicine #family #MarineFamily #USMC #militarylife

Talk about motivating! Sarah Katherine Sisk
Last night, I had the immense honor of attending the Sunset Parade, at the Marine Corps Memorial, in honor of Senator Ted Budd (R-NC). The Marine Corps’ sunset and evening parades are always beautiful, but I found myself a bit emotional watching last night. Last night, Kayla Haas served as Adjutant of the parade. For those unaware, it is incredibly rare to see a woman in the parade. It’s even more rare to see them leading it, as Adjutant. For generations, little girls saw Marines and had to question whether they could hold their own among the ranks of men. Sure, they could aspire to become a United States Marine, but they didn’t have a visual representation of what they were striving to become - a role model or a hero, if you will. Now, little girls across the country have the chance to SEE that they, too, can become United States Marines. It’s no longer simply a dream. It’s clear as day - they can break through ceilings, they can blaze new trails, and they can lead United States Marines. She did that. #marinecorps #marines #semperfidelis #betheone #washingtondc

May we never forget that freedom isn't free. Today we give our deepest gratitude to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. As we honor those we have lost, we also recognize the important role our military plays as a conservation partner. Covering approximately 27 million acres of land, our nation’s military bases help support ecologically important habitats. One great example is Fort Riley, a five-square-mile Army base in the Flint Hills of Kansas. In addition to the Army’s First Infantry Division, Fort Riley hosts a population of greater prairie-chickens, which, like other grassland-obligate species, thrive in treeless grasslands. In this Ask an Expert, WLFW-supported researcher Caleb Roberts discusses how spatial targeting can be used to safeguard critical lek locations that become abandoned when pressured by woody expansion.
