Canada’s soldiers, sailors and aviators have answered one of the highest calls in service to our country. When our veterans make the choice to re-enter civilian life, we want to ensure they feel empowered to secure rewarding, high-demand careers. That is why our government is investing $300,000 in the Helmets to Hardhats program. This program offers safety certification, personal safety equipment, supervisory training and employment referrals for service members who do not already have a background in the trades. Through this investment we are addressing the labour needs of the province while also creating pathways to rewarding careers for veterans.

Every year around 16,000 people leave the UK’s armed forces, many of whom are then thrust into the commercial world to begin new careers, which may seem daunting, and difficult to break into, after years of military service. As we mark Armed Forces Week, it is important at Ascent that we celebrate the work carried out by the UK’s armed forces, both past and present – and the skills and experience that veterans bring to the work we carry out at Ascent, in collaboration with our military partners. Ascent is proud to be one of the 100 Great British Employers of Veterans, as well as a signatory of the Women in Defence Charter and the Armed Forces Covenant and supporter of the Ex-Forces in Business Award, for which this year we have three finalists. We also enable members of the Armed Forces to apply for vacancies at our sites and Training Hub through the Managed Path Scheme. There are veterans (from all three Services) within our 410 staff, carrying out roles ranging from pilots and instructors to business managers and administrators. In fact, around half of Ascent’s Leadership Team come from a military background, giving us a firm understanding of the issues facing veterans from the top down. As an experienced and trusted provider of military training, Ascent understands the particular difficulties facing those leaving the services. We were proud to receive the Defence ERS Silver Award in 2022, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to providing meaningful and flexible opportunities in the workplace for those who have served our country. We recognise the value and transferable skills that reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers, customers, partners and wider military communities contribute to our business operations. We want to attract and work with innovative, adaptable and proactive people, and as a team with a mixture of commercial and military backgrounds, we feel we bring together the best of both worlds, to enhance our training solutions. Our Armed Forces work tirelessly to defend the UK and protect our people all day, every day. Let’s take time to #SaluteOurForces this #ArmedForcesDay #ReservesDay

Navigating the Transition: Military to Civilian Life As I embark on this new chapter of transitioning from active military service to the civilian workforce, I’ve realized that this journey is challenging yet transformative. After years of serving in military aircraft maintenance management, I’m now shifting towards the supply chain/logistics field, eager to apply my planning expertise in a new way. However, the process hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced setbacks, especially finding the right job that aligns with my skills and aspirations. It’s been a humbling experience not having things fall into place immediately; some days, the uncertainty feels overwhelming. In addition to that, the new role of being a military spouse and continuing my commitment as a USAF Reserve weekend warrior means there is a lot to balance. While feeling the pressure of the unknowns (especially with an upcoming move), I’m staying optimistic. I believe that, just as in the military, adaptability and perseverance will lead me through this transition. I’m grateful for the support of my family and community and excited for the opportunities that await. To others in a similar spot, know that it’s okay to feel lost—this journey is about finding new paths and trusting that things will eventually come together. #MilitaryToCivilian #VeteranTransition #CareerTransition #MilitarySpouse #USAFReserve #WeekendWarrior #Resilience #JobSearchJourney #NewBeginnings #Adaptability #SupplyChain #LogisticsCareers #VeteransInTheWorkforce #CareerChange #VeteransCommunity

The United States Marine Corps is rolling out new retention bonuses aimed at encouraging service members to reenlist, while also suspending the "Broken Service" bonus program for the upcoming fiscal year. In a strategic effort to retain talent within its ranks, the Corps is offering significant financial incentives for Marines in critical military occupational specialties (MOS). These bonuses are designed to attract and keep personnel in essential roles like aircraft maintenance, infantry, and other high-demand positions. Eligible Marines can potentially earn up to $105,000 by reenlisting for an additional six years in certain critical jobs, showcasing the Corps' commitment to maintaining a capable workforce. Marines who choose to reenlist between now and September 2025 are eligible for these substantial bonuses, which include "kicker" payments for specific roles. Interestingly, last year, approximately 52% of first-term Marines and 60% of subsequent-term Marines opted to reenlist without utilizing the bonus program. This suggests that many service members are motivated by factors beyond financial incentives, such as the strong sense of camaraderie, the unique culture of the Marine Corps, and the personal fulfillment of serving. By focusing on critical roles and enhancing financial incentives, the Marine Corps aims to stay competitive not only within its own ranks but also against private sector job offers. The decision to suspend the "Broken Service" bonus program reflects a strategic shift, acknowledging that many former Marines are returning for reasons rooted in connection and shared values rather than just monetary compensation. This understanding emphasizes the importance of a supportive community and the high standards that the Corps upholds. Overall, the Marine Corps is adapting its approach to retention by recognizing the diverse motivations of its service members. By aligning financial incentives with the cultural values of the organization, the Corps aims to foster a more engaged and committed force. Please select 💡 if you thought this post made a great point, offered a new idea, or shared helpful insights or advice. #MarineCorps #RetentionBonuses #MilitaryService #CareerDevelopment #Leadership #Camaraderie #MilitaryOccupationalSpecialties #Incentives #Reenlistment #ServiceMembers #DefenseIndustry #Motivation #Community

**When is the best time to apply for jobs as a Military leaver?** As I prepare to transition from the Military to civilian life, one question I keep contemplating is: "When should I start applying for jobs?" I often come across roles that align with my future goals in engineering management, but with just under 10 months remaining in my service with the Royal Air Force and a planned start date for civilian employment in May 2025, I question myself: “Is it too early to apply now?” I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights from those who have gone through this process. Understanding the right timing feels crucial to making a successful transition. Is timing key? #MilitaryTransition #VeteranCareers #Engineering #EngineeringManagement #CareerTransition #Veterans #JobSearchTips

ALCON and FYSA does not work well in emails, FYI. 😅 Some parts of military life die hard... finding a new and rewarding career doesn't have to be added to that struggle. Through our Trane Trade Warriors program, trainees are often placed with a hiring employer before they finish the program. Though it's very, very rare that graduates or employers are unsatisfied with placements, we also assist in new placements in these situations. If you're considering a switch to civilian life within the next 6 months or already discharged, check to see if you're eligible by learning more and filling out a pre-screening application. https://lnkd.in/emUCDQvP #civies #civilian #civilianlife #dd214 #honorabledischarge #veterans #army #fysa #armymom #veteran #va #veteranaffairs #skillbridge
