There’s been a lot of discussion about foodtech today, but will it translate into action? Attended DNB ‘s foodtech conference in Oslo today: Key takeaways: 🤝there is room for more players for foodtech in Norway 🐾foodtech is in the political agenda following EU’s footsteps 🚀The big players are ready for systemic change and this can happen with collaboration with small players like Moreshrooms AS to drive innovation in the forefront Thank you for the panel discussions (Cindy van Rijswick , Kees Kruythoff , Audun Wickstrand Iversen , Ulrik Hallén Øen , Nicolai Prytz , Johanne Kjuus , Jeanett Bergan , Pär Larshans , Rikke Kyllenstjerna , Arne Hjeltnes , Monica Ødegaard , Ann-Katrin Tottie , Stein Rømmerud ..) Startups like ours are working hard to drive innovation. The big question is: will we receive the necessary support from the industry and policymakers to make a real impact? Food for thought.

Many thanks Samantha Caccamo for inviting me to join the #SocialBusinessConference on a panel discussing what it takes to support the development of #SocialEnterprises and #SustainableEnterprises. This is a topic deeply close to my heart and it was fascinating to be the academic voice in a panel of excellent speakers coming from both sustainable businesses and impact investing. The innovative enterprises that I learnt about, which aim to make the global food systems more sustainable, have been truly inspiring! It was amazing how much the experiences of agri-food start-ups in Switzerland resonated with what I know about #SociaEenterprises and #sustainable/ #green start-ups in other countries and even continents. This re-affirmed my conviction that knowledge sharing can go to great lengths as both challenges and best practices are quite widespread. In particular, key insights and best practice that I believe are worth sharing include: - Any start-up, no matter what #impact it is trying to make, needs to focus on quality first and foremost. Social or environmental impact are not enough to attract mass consumers, but quality (at comparable pricing) - that matches or surpasses what is already in the market - can make a huge difference - Combining profitability (which is essential) with positive #social and/or #environmental impact requires #creativity and #innovation, either in the form of new technologies or in the form of recombining existing ideas and tools in novel ways. - No innovation or creation of multiple value(s) can be done without #partnering with multiple stakeholders in the value chain. When starting, it is probably better to build strong partnerships with like-minded people than to dilute efforts engaging with many potential suppliers and other resource providers. - #Social and #sustainable start-ups cannot make it on their own without a supportive #ecosystem. This involves #policy-makers, #education institutions, #suppliers and #investors all doing their part. From encouraging critical thinking and going to the roots of issues, to supporting attempts of driving #SystemsChange and rewarding those that try to create positive impact alongside profits, with a long-term view. Would be curious to know what social entrepreneurs and impact investors think on all of this and whether there are more best practices they would like to share! Meanwhile, a huge thanks to fellow panel members: Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, Aymeric Jung and Freddy Hunziker
