💦For decades, apparently, #Nestlé has been selling billions of bottles that had nothing to do with natural mineral water: in France, Europe and even around the world, without ever informing consumers. 📰The report by fraud investigators submitted to the Epinal Public Prosecutor at the end of April, to which mediapart.fr has had access, confirms our fears. 🕵️♂️The investigators quoted by Mediapart seem to support what we suspected with our complaint: massive fraud organised by the multinational. This is a serious matter. The investigators speak of ‘a group strategy’, of Nestlé's desire to mislead consumers and believe that ‘Nestlé's moral responsibility must be held primarily’. ⚖For foodwatch France, given this information, it is essential that the investigation is completed as quickly as possible and leads to the opening of a judicial investigation. Nestlé must no longer think itself above the law. Our press release 👉 https://lnkd.in/etw4ntNP #foodfraud #EUlaw #consumersrights https://lnkd.in/dxMtjsAB

Another Nestle scandal ) The second in a row. But ! Very systenabilitie and environment reponsibility company )))) *** Nestle spent 15 years selling water from faecal springs under the guise of natural mineral water - study by independent agency Mediapar. In simple words: Nestle literally scooped water from waste with lots of bacteria and faecal matter, filtered it and sold it as "therapeutic". The fraud is worth more than €3bn. Now consumer organisation Foodwatch is demanding that the company be held to account because natural water should be pure from the start. https://lnkd.in/eMgZaJJN https://lnkd.in/ehrZZ4KJ https://lnkd.in/ezic8gKH https://lnkd.in/e3Rcbzuk https://lnkd.in/eFNhpUiM

https://lnkd.in/e6rtRgPQ About time 😀 Banning targetting fast-food ads to kids was a big topic about 20 years ago and they didn't go far enough. I remember chatting about it with the McDonalds media agency Account Manager who felt there was still a lot advertisers could do. In 2013 food companies were accused by the World Health Organisation, of finding ways to bypass the rules on advertising unhealthy products to children and fuelling the obesity epidemic. 👉 Advertising makes a big difference on behavior. Of course it does. That's why hundreds of millions get spent by big brands. 👉We should protect children from advertising that promotes potentially harmful behavior. Simples.

After years of talking around it - time to enact this in #Scotland too as part of becoming a #GoodFoodNation Multiple polls and consumer surveys including citizens participating in the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission #FoodConversation in Scotland last week support this ban and further restrictions Great briefing from Obesity Action Scotland here - https://lnkd.in/ekR5xyx6 'A recent study in Scotland showed similar results when surveying bus stop adverts in the city of Edinburgh. Out of the 298 adverts that were recorded, 66% were for fast-food outlets and fruit juices high in sugar. Another Scottish study explored children’s exposure to unhealthy food advertising on transport networks across the central belt of Scotland. It revealed that children from more deprived backgrounds were at greater risk of exposure given their higher usage of public transport networks, such as bus routes, compared to less deprived groups. There is also some evidence which suggests that such adverts concentrate around schools and other popular routes for young people.'
👏 Nine metro mayors across the UK have come together to announce a ban on junk food advertising on buses and trains 👉 https://lnkd.in/edqRkpZM Citizens in #TheFoodConversation tell us again and again that they're concerned about the impact of junk food advertising on the health of their families. Great to see local governments showing leadership in this area, following the announcement earlier this month of a nationwide pre-9pm watershed and total ban on online ads. ❌ 🍔 Junk food ads will be banned from pre-watershed slots starting next year in the UK. At first glance, this seems like a sensible move, but the evidence on the real impact of these types of bans is still a bit unclear. While the intent is to promote healthier choices for younger audiences, we’ll have to wait and see if it leads to measurable changes in behaviour. 📺 📉 On a personal note, I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic. It’s another step toward sanitising an already highly regulated UK TV ad market—one that’s increasingly losing some of its creativity and edge. Interested to hear anyone's thoughts on whether you think these types of bans work and what you think of the state of TV ads in 2024? https://lnkd.in/evFJeX6B #tvads #commercial

Senior lecturer and course leader BSc (Hons) Public health. Supporting the development of health-span incentives for longevity.
Since the Foresight report in 2007, and earlier there have been calls for a 9pm watershed on junk food advertising. And yet, there had been a leaning by the previous government, similarly to the madness of the Responsibility Deal, to allow these food organisations to self-govern (it was laughable.as several organisations just cherry-picked their 'responsibilities'). Threats of legislation by the previous government in rhe absence of change, led.to the industry doing little and essentially calling the government's bluff. Further down the line, and with continued stalling from the previous government that the relevant food organisations needed 'breathing room' to adapt to a tv watershed, it has now been decided by this current government that a watershed will be introduced. Action to fight fraud in the honey industry! 🐝 🍯 🇪🇺 Just a week ago, the Council of the European Union & the European Parliament took a bold step forward in the battle against honey fraud. With updated regulations on honey composition, labeling, and naming, there's now a crucial new requirement: specifying the COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN on honey labels. Currently, around 50% of the EU's honey demand is met by imported, often cheaper blended honeys that flood the market and drive volume sales. But here's the thing: Most consumers base their honey choices mainly on price and brand. It's time to get customers to also focus on ORIGIN. Where your honey comes from is important because local honeys: ⭐ Are less likely to be tampered with – less blending, homogenizing, or excessive processing. ⭐ Have shorter supply chains and reduced CO2 footprint. ⭐ Support your local beekeepers and honey industry. ⭐ Offer a fresher, more authentic taste experience than mass-produced blends. Next time you reach for honey to sweeten your kids' breakfast or family recipes, choose a local producer. Source: European Council https://lnkd.in/dH9G_BKz

Good move! And in case anybody wondered.. What counts as junk food in upcoming UK advert ban? https://lnkd.in/ecNvhQPM "Under the new rules a particular food will be banned if it meets two criteria. Firstly, if it is classified as “less healthy” on a government scoring system after its nutrients have been analysed – this includes salt, fat, sugar and protein. Secondly, if it falls into one of 13 categories created by the government. They include: Soft drinks: This covers any product that contains added sugar such as cola, lemonade and squash. It also includes fruit juice, smoothies and energy drinks. Savoury snacks: Crisps mainly, but this also extends to crackers, rice cakes, tortilla chips and Bombay mix. There are exemptions for flavoured nuts, dried fruit and jerky. Breakfast cereal: This includes granola, muesli, porridge oats and other items you would find in the breakfast aisle of a supermarket. Chocolates and sweets: This applies to the vast majority of items you would find listed under confectionery, but also includes popcorn and chewing gum. Ice cream: Dairy and non-dairy products, such as ice lollies, are covered by this as well as frozen yoghurt, sorbet and gelato. Cakes and cupcakes: Flapjacks, doughnuts and éclairs are also included in this category - but icing is exempted. Biscuits and bars: Protein and cereal bars are included, as are other products like wafers and toaster pastries. Morning goods: Croissants, pain au chocolat and other pastries are the main foods covered here - but this category also extends to crumpets, scones, fruit loaves and hot cross buns. Desserts and puddings: Custard, jelly and mousses are included, but there are exemptions for tinned fruit, cream and syrups. Yoghurt: Any variety that has been sweetened is covered by this category, as are non-dairy alternatives, probiotic yoghurt and drinkable varieties. Pizza: Plain bases and garlic bread are exempted from this, but otherwise all sizes and types of pizza are included. Potatoes: Plain and sweet varieties that have not been cut or cooked are exempt, but several other potato-based products are included such as chips, hash browns and croquettes. Ready meals: A broad category that covers anything intended to be eaten as a main meal, often after being reheated, and requires no further preparation. It also includes sandwiches and burgers. Other foods also exempted from the ban include infant formula and baby food, weight control products, meal replacement products, food supplements and drinks used for medicinal purposes."
🙌🙌 #momentum🙌🙌🙌 🍎Stimulus of new government - but also (more importantly) bold action by #regionalmayors 🍎 Public Health embedded in Regions and Councils has a renaissance opportunity - but this requires local policies and practice being signed off as being in the public health interest 🧐 we need to be aware of unintended consequences though. 🥕 #postcodelottery - health is a national population interest - it’s not fair for some to benefit from bold reform but others do not - by nature where they live 🥕 #devolvedpowers - making sure balance is right - councils and regions just don’t have jurisdiction or anything other than soft influence over national institutions like our schools. BUT - it’s #goodnews to see ever growing action - I’m hopeful 😊😊
