I hear from many people about their frustration at what they experience as a gap in collaboration between non-clinical and clinical providers in the health and wellness space. Clients are often left feeling like they have to choose between the guidance of one and the other. One person shared, “I feel like a kid navigating divorced parents who don’t speak to each other.” Many have also expressed frustrations with a reimbursement system that values certain modalities over others leaving them feeling like their options for wellness are limited. This can particularly impact populations who don’t view mental health and wellness through the lens of the medical model. At the same time, practioners and communities outside of the “mainstream models” have shared with me how in some ways they have internalized their marginalization and chose not to participate in collecting data to demonstrate the value of their approach. We, as #pharmacists, are often the first point of contact and play a critical role in #patientsafety, #medication management, and providing #accessible health services. ~𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: With 1 in 8 people globally affected by mental health conditions, integrating mental health services into pharmacies can significantly improve accessibility and affordability of care. ~𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻? The action plan includes training staff, developing referral systems, maintaining medication stocks, and promoting mental well-being activities to support our community better. This discussion not only enhanced my knowledge and skills but also empowered me to contribute more effectively to the well-being of our community, especially in rural areas where access to mental health services is limited. It always works out the same; after you get through all the crap, the person is just tired of feeling like that and tired of their family being hurt and taking advantage of and all the crap people go through to find their best selves; everybody wants and solution we’re here for it.
