Helping people and making a difference. :-) For the past 3 days the United States Air Force Civil Air Patrol Geospatial team and FEMA members have been conducting geospatial damage assessments for the South Fork and Salt fires in New Mexico. The response is always a collaborative effort between the assessment teams and those who create the data we use. Thanks to Maxar Technologies, Planet, ICEYE, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for providing the imagery and derived products used to conduct the assessments, and Esri for the environment to work in. How is this validated? A Presidential Disaster Declaration given from The White House within two days and quickly helping get aid to the people that need it. https://lnkd.in/eNMBWxu4 #helpingothers #geospatial #gis #geospatialintelligence #disasterresponse #disasterrecovery #teamwork #wildlandfire #newmexico #servicetoothers

Ya know, the Secret Service can use GIS to calculate line of sight, travel routes, obstructions to target , and distances when planning their missions. There are tools in the RMTK to evaluate surface danger zones. I wonder if they take advantage of spatial products.

Our Defense Sciences Office is requesting information about advances in #ocean circulation models and characterization of ocean parameters to help prevent strategic or tactical surprise for national security. Knowledge of real-time ocean dynamics is essential but is currently hampered by lack of data and information on which to base our models and assessment, particularly in the ocean interior. We are seeking to understand how to monitor the ocean and model its dynamics across a variety of spatial and temporal scales. Two-page technical response due Oct. 7. For more information on how to submit your input, visit: https://ow.ly/EHkc50Tzxg1 #oceanmodelling; #oceandynamics; #oceancirculation; #oceanmonitoring

Finally got around to this awesome read. With all the talk of seabed warfare and CUI defense, Nature and bumbling humans (causing 200 breaks/year - about one every other day) pose just as great, if not greater, threat to global connectivity, and this will only increase as the Internet's neural pathways continue to proliferate. "The reason websites continue to load, bank transfers go through, and civilization persists is because of the thousand or so people living aboard 20-some ships stationed around the world, who race to fix each cable as soon as it breaks." https://lnkd.in/ecMjWwik
