Putting Human experience first in any design decision doesn’t seem that daft.. I personally loved this discussion, it reminded me why I choose architecture and construction as a career choice.. #architecture #construction
Our founder, Jane Darbyshire, was heavily inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in her #architecture, and over 35 years since JDDK was established, some of our projects are still influenced by the movement today. Here, Principal Architect, Alison Thornton-Sykes and Director, Nicky Watson explore its lasting legacy, and how the human experience remains at the forefront of our decision making in #design, to make sure we always create buildings that are rooted in their location and have a lasting impression with everyone that passes through them. Throwback to a brilliant moment when I had the opportunity to witness Melbourne’s urban vibrancy, one of the world’s most liveable cities. City of Melbourne's journey towards liveability is built on its dedication to quality urban design, activating public spaces like laneway movements to transport networks. These efforts have created an environment that not only serves today’s residents but also ensures future generations have something to look forward to. In many respects, Singapore shares a similar vision. From our well-designed built environments to our efficient transport systems, both cities are committed to creating spaces that enhance quality of life. Much like Melbourne, Singapore’s forward-thinking urban planning ensures our city remains resilient, sustainable, and liveable for the future. If your city has demonstrated a commitment to improving urban spaces, fostering liveability, and delivering innovative design solutions, consider nominating it for the LKY World City Prize. It’s an opportunity to share best practices, showcase your city’s achievements, and inspire others globally. #UrbanDesign #CityPlanning #LiveableCities #Singapore #Melbourne #LKYWorldCityPrize #SustainableCities
Whether it is activating their popular laneways, or prioritising the creation of more well-designed buildings and environments and improving their transport networks, City of Melbourne’s continuous improvements to enhance the quality of their environments have made them one of the most #LiveableCities in the world. Hear from Sally Capp AO, former Lord Mayor of Melbourne (2024 Special Mention) on the impact of some of their initiatives, with the belief that investing in good design matters in creating “a significant impact today and for generations to come.” #LKYWCP #UrbanDesign #UrbanPlanning #Architecture

Michael Anderson, AIA-NOMA walks the walk n talks the talk while also manning a solid architectural practice. The entrepreneurs road is NOT for the faint of heart. What can we collectively or individually do to assist these businesses that are the catalyst for job creation? Pay on time! Cut out the red tape that slows the flow! Stop misinformation from flowing; be transparent about process! Allocate funds based on needs not cookie cutter processes that are antiquated! Hold the bigger pockets feet to the fire as you do entrepreneurs…yeah, I can go on n on cause I’m at the table. I see unnecessary duress because the order takers are not decision makers or influencers so progress is impeded. We can do better in working with our entrepreneurs so they can be leaders in their sector n the community they serve. #inclusiveleadership #entreprenuers #businessinBlack
Anderson Barker Architects served as the executive architect for the Plaza and Retail Buildings and the Pedestrian Bridge for the new Intuit Dome. I am proud of my role and the teamwork with City Design Studio in this significant project. Working as the associate architect to AECOM, it is exciting to see our work featured in the New York Times article, highlighting contributions from seven artists, including Glenn Kaino and Charles Gains. This project was a collaborative effort with AECOM, City Design Studio, Walter Hood, HLB, and Walker Consultants. Read the article here. https://lnkd.in/ecCVF-UZ

Yesterday, Malcolm Birks, Head of Design and Sally Ormiston, Head of Consulting attended the Building Garden Communities Conference at RIBA. They reflected on a fascinating session on the evolution of modern methods of construction (MMC) for homes and public buildings. The session debated on why the market has of yet failed to deliver ‘better homes cheaper’ at the scale needed to meet the potential that MMC has to offer in environmental sustainability terms. Standardisation seems to be key and the panel offered a perspective that this doesn’t mean low quality and that architectural design can still ensure that homes and buildings built using these methods can be beautiful and of their place; both critical when thinking about how MMC might be used in the rural context. #MMC #RIBA #RuralArchitecture #ArchitecturalDesign

The built environment has a major influence on the urban quality-of-life, which is why we're now seeing more architectural designs that incorporate nature than ever before. As architects, the influence and integration of nature can help us to achieve the best results, reaching an alignment between the natural and built environment. In our latest edition of Millmount, Associate Director, Stuart Franklin and Architect Otis Murdoch, explore the different methods for integrating nature into a range of buildings, from healthcare centres to offices, and how natural design ultimately enables people to feel better connected to their environment. We need clearer policies on circular economy and Ecocel (Ireland) Could play bigger role in job creation and fossil free insulation in this space like many European Countries.
The Thursday long read - Home from home Few architects are tasked with knocking their old family home, but for John Morehead, once this difficult decision was made, it was a chance to create a future-proofed new passive house that embraces its stunning natural surroundings and exhibits remarkable attention to detail. https://lnkd.in/e_rAqBdF

I had an amazing time yesterday at the SoFlo NOMA event in Miami, where I had the pleasure of attending a captivating talk by Anson M. Stuart, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, PMP, EcoDistrict AP, titled "How to Design, Build, and Live the Life of Your Dreams." A big thank you to Stacey N. Boynton, NOMA, NCARB, Assoc. AIA for inviting me and to Anson for such an insightful presentation. The event was focused on showing us how to design and build a new version of ourselves that will allow us to truly live the life of our dreams. What resonated with me the most (because it's all about energy and vibrations) was the concept of #GETMOVING – stepping and acting on what you are learning. Sometimes, we set goals to read a certain number of books, but the reality is that we should focus on what we truly intend to attract and grow. Using repetition to genuinely assimilate and internalize concepts is crucial. The art of repetition as a key tool and consistency. Changing the our #MINDSET!!! Anson wrapped up the talk with a brilliant video by Bob Proctor where he said, "We want the leaves before we even have the roots." This was a powerful reminder of the importance of laying a solid foundation before seeking growth. I left the event feeling inspired and motivated to put these principles into practice. 🌟 #SoFloNOMA #Architecture #PersonalGrowth #Mindset #ProfessionalDevelopment
