If you’ve travelled or lived abroad, you’ve likely noticed that food packaging and labelling can look very different depending on the country. 👇 Customers are used to their country’s standards, and strict regulations are in place to ensure that labels are correct. This is why it's not only the translation of linguistic elements, but the overall localisation of all labelling, that’s essential. -- Ensuring that your packaging adheres to international regulations means using careful and informed translation and localisation resources, like our team here at Sandberg. CBAM, or the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, is a policy tool used to address carbon leakage and promote greener practices by imposing tariffs on imported goods based on their carbon content. The mechanism aims to level the playing field between domestic products, which are often subject to strict environmental regulations, and imported goods from countries with looser regulations. Why CBAM is strategic? - Climate Change Mitigation: By taxing imports based on their carbon footprint, CBAM incentivizes foreign producers to adopt cleaner technologies and reduce emissions, thereby contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change. - Economic Competitiveness: It prevents domestic industries from being at a disadvantage compared to foreign competitors who might not face the same environmental regulations, thus maintaining fair competition. - Encouraging Global Standards: CBAM can drive international standards for carbon emissions, encouraging countries with less stringent environmental policies to enhance their climate actions. - Revenue Generation: The tariffs collected can be used to fund further climate initiatives and green technologies, creating a positive feedback loop for environmental sustainability. - Transition to a Green Economy: By making carbon-intensive goods more expensive, CBAM promotes the transition towards a low-carbon economy and supports the development of sustainable industries.

Does your company do business in Vietnam? Do your third party suppliers fully understand international sustainability standards? Are they adopting them in their day-to-day operations? I am delighted to announce the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce's new two-day training programme for Vietnamese companies which will be held in Can Tho, Da Nang and Hanoi over the second half of March. IBLF Global has been advising on the design of the training. These sessions will cover critical topics for local companies wanting to be part of international supply chains, such as ESG, due diligence, risk management, and compliance. Participants will master new management skills. They will be inspired to communicate and implement new standards within their companies and externally with their business partners. They will learn how to grow their exports and attract international investment, while doing business with integrity. The training will be highly interactive and practical, with plenty of opportunity for participants to exchange opinions and best practices with other companies in an open and trusting atmosphere. It will be conducted in Vietnamese only. It is free-of-charge, thanks to the generous support of the UK government and UNDP in Viet Nam. Please encourage your Vietnamese suppliers and business partners to attend. There's more information below in English and Vietnamese. Participants can register here: https://lnkd.in/eTUAgNFx while spaces last. I'll be looking forward to welcoming your Vietnamese suppliers in person at the final session in Hanoi on 21-22 March. #thirdparty #supplychain #sustainability #esg #vietnam

Geographical Indications are a key success of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (#EUSFTA) - to find out more, check out the latest publication👇 Key facts: ✅️ The #EUSFTA, in force since November 2019, includes an enhanced framework of protection of Intellectual Property Rights, including Geographical Indications (GIs). There are currently 165 EU GIs registered and protected in Singapore, covering a wide range of agri-food products. ✅️ Product names protected as GIs have a specific link to a given territory, where a quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin. ✅️ The GI quality scheme enables consumers to trust and distinguish quality products while also helping producers to protect and market their authentic products. ✅️ As one of the key benefits of the #EUSFTA, qualifying EU GIs can seek protection in Singapore by filing for registration with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). ✅️ With annual EU exports of GIs valued at over €1 billion, a total of 165 EU GIs are currently protected in Singapore, mainly wines, spirits, cheese and meat products. This booklet📚, published by the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation to Singapore, provides further details on the protection of EU GIs in the framework of the #EUSFTA. Over the past two weeks, MACN travelled to Indonesia as a first step in setting up our new Collective Action initiative in the country - we aim to overcome operational challenges, and promote fair trade through collaboration in what has the potential to become one of Asia's key trading hubs. 🇮🇩 On invitation from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs Republic of Indonesia, we presented at the "Public-Private Forum Dialogue on Shipping Related Matters" in Batam. The goal was to facilitate collaboration and coordination between stakeholders in the maritime industry, and anti-corruption was addressed in a dedicated session. We look forward to report on developments at next years event. The following week, we travelled to Jakarta and engaged in meaningful conversations with the local offices of our members, civil society organisations, embassies, and government agencies, to begin a multi-stakeholder dialogue on how we together can improve the challenging operational environment. The notion echoing every conversation was; "Indonesia has so much potential". Now back in Copenhagen - equipped with an armoury of new insights, action points, and knowledge - we will take a stab on the next steps and scope our work plan. If you want to take part in our Collective Action initiative in Indonesia, share inputs, or stay updated on the process - reach out for a chat or contact me on mstene@macn.dk 📩 A big thank you to everyone who made this a successful trip.
