This year’s statistics confirm that the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently altered mobility patterns, with remote work reducing commuting and seeing overall fuel consumption down around 10% (since before 2020) as the ‘new normal’. The historically high fuel prices, seen first in 2022 and only partially falling in 2023, will have had an impact on levels of demand. However, with fuels still accounting for over 90% of transport energy use, fuel demand remained relatively inelastic across the year with demand rising by 1% from 2022 levels. Could an hour change the world? Earth Hour gives you the chance to find out by turning off your lights completely on Saturday, 23 March 2024, from 8:30 to 9:30pm. This small step helps to reduce energy consumption and gives earth some rest! ⏳ Last year, WWF reported 410,000 hours pledged to the #HourBank. This year let's not only aim for bigger numbers but also make a habit of keeping non-essential lights off as much as possible. According to the Energy Saving Trust, an average UK household can save up to £80 per year by switching off lights and standby appliances. Let's not underestimate the power of these small actions, they create a big impact! P.S. - Got an hour to kill in the dark? It’s the perfect excuse for a stargazing or enjoying a candlelit dinner. 🌌🕯️

💸$300 in your pocket sounds great, but is it really the smartest move? From July 1st, the government is rolling out a $300 energy bill rebate to all Australian households to help with cost-of-living pressures. While we all love a bit of extra cash, we can't help but wonder: is this the best use of taxpayer funds? 🤔 Imagine if that $3.5 billion was invested in more subsidies for energy efficiency upgrades instead, such as draught-proofing, insulation and more efficient appliances. As a community, we would get much more value out of it. While this would also result in lower bills for households, there would be many additional benefits: 💡Longer-term solution: bills would remain lower year after year, 🏡Healthier and more comfortable homes, therefore a reduced strain on our healthcare system, 👷♂️More work for local tradespeople carrying out the upgrades, ⚡Reduced strain on the grid, 🌱Reduced dependence on fossil fuels, and a big step towards our climate goals. Don't get us wrong – we know many Aussies are struggling with energy costs. But wouldn't it be better to solve the root cause rather than just treating the symptom? What do you think? Is it a missed opportunity for lasting change? #EnergyEfficiency #GovPolicy #Sustainability #AlpacaSolutions #LongTermThinking #HealthyHomes #EnergyUpgrades
