How can collaborative efforts unlock wellbeing, environmental, and economic benefits for Wales? This was the central theme at our Annual Autumn Cardiff Event, held last week at the iconic Wales Millennium Centre. Together with leaders from the National Trust, Legal & General, and Cardiff Capital Region , we explored the potential of a place-based approach to create more inclusive and sustainable communities. From nature-based solutions to seamless cross-sector collaboration, the panel highlighted the importance of working together across public and private sectors to make Wales’s ambitious policies a reality. Today we're celebrating World Environment Day. Addressing London’s accelerating climate emergency is a key focus for #LAIN which brings together London’s largest organisations and commits them to reducing their carbon footprint, improving their business' sustainability and helping Mayor of London achieve net zero by 2030. So far, collectively LAIN members have: - Saved 2.1m tonnes of carbon – through carbon reduction initiatives 🌍 - Trained 7000 staff in carbon literacy or environmental sustainability to embed sustainability principles in both strategic and operational work 💚 On this World Environment Day, we’d like to thank members of #LAIN’s Green New Deal Working Group for their commitment and drive to being real change leaders in this area. Member organisations include: Capital City College Group, Diocese of London, Diocese of Southwark, London Fire Brigade, London Jewish Forum, Newham College of Further Education, Transport for London, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC), New City College, University of London, Greater London Authority, London South East Colleges, NHS Lots more work still needs to be done to turn the dial but #LAIN’s focus will remain on achieving a greener, more prosperous London for everyone. #LondonAnchors #WorldEnvironmentDay #netzero

We are delighted to welcome to the stage Carla Denyer MP Co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales and newly elected Green MP for Bristol Central. Carla has just been speaking on A Just Transition 💚 a subject dear to our hearts here at Future Leap: A Just Transition is not about politics * its about all of us * Bristol City Council has already signed up to A Just Transition Declaration: making the transition to net zero fair and inclusive. And as we move towards a zero carbon society - this is about ensuring every worker gets the training support and skills that they need. Bristol has committed to 10 guiding principles in working towards meaningful action and change: 1. Entering the expertise of disadvantaged communities in decision making: actively seeking out and recognising lived experience as valuable. 2. Good future proof jobs for everyone 3. Ensure a fair distribution of costs and benefits to all for going to zero carbon 4. Life style changes needs to be facilitated through system change - not just individual change 5. Changing the rules - so that making the sustainable choice is also the cheapest choice 6. Standing in solidarity with those who are experiencing the sharp end of the climate crisis globally Weblink :: https://lnkd.in/gmDNrMVU Government are leading the way with greening the electricity system - but much more needs to be done by local government. This includes exploring new business models, such as community ownerships and partnerships. and Community Wealth Building - using local supply chains to keep wealth in the local community. Thank you Carla! 🌍 Cities are increasingly recognizing that justice must be at the heart of sustainability transitions. While we have many visions of the just city and the sustainable city, we lack clear visions of what a city that jointly pursues social justice AND sustainability objectives might look like. In our latest report, we present the findings of a Q survey with actors from the Brussels region, aiming to uncover the diverse visions of a just, sustainable transition that exist among different stakeholders. Curious about the results? Check out a sneak peek in the image below! 👉 For the full report, click here: https://lnkd.in/egiWjdfK And you? Collaboration at Scale!!! I had the pleasure of taking part in the BusinessLDN Meet the Deputy Mayors Roundtable with Mete Coban MBE Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy today. Some highlights include: - Social justice is being considered for all of London in line with London's growth plans - London's waterways are going to be a new focus for creating a healthy and biodiverse city - Businesses should capitalise on the net zero / clean energy transition - We cannot rely on small initiatives and need to co-produce and co-design a greener fairer London - New funds are coming forth to drive low carbon outcomes at scale across multiple boroughs -Climate resilience needs to be built into the wider plans - Skills and capacity building needs to take shape at scale - District energy and retrofit plans should also consider low energy solutions such as Passive House (Passivhaus) It was great to hear that the environment, green innovation and clean energy are central to the Greater London Authority growth plans, with collaboration between businesses, industry and community taking centre stage to realise the cities net zero and climate resilience. Collaboration and co creation are central also to the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability mission and UEL's careers first and business partnership approach. Are stars aligning for a greener and just transition? Public Health Sustainability scientist and Social entrepreneur leading innovation in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
This beautiful image, taken in the heart of London's financial district, serves as a powerful reminder of the need for harmony between urban development and nature—a concept aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The green, plant-covered statue amidst the serene fountain and lush trees symbolizes #SDG15: Life on Land, which focuses on sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and halting biodiversity loss. In the context of a bustling business hub like the #London Bank area, this scene invites reflection on how urban spaces can integrate green infrastructure, supporting both environmental sustainability and human well-being. It’s a visual representation of the potential for sustainable cities to foster a balance between economic progress (#SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth) and environmental stewardship. As businesses and institutions rethink their role in addressing climate change, let this image inspire more green initiatives and partnerships that align with the global goals for a better, more sustainable future. EmpVic Research Public Health Solutions is happy to witness this initiative! #SustainableDevelopment #UNSDGs #GreenCities #LifeOnLand #ClimateAction #SustainabilityInBusiness

The Green Party unveiled their new manifesto 👀🌳🤗 As the 2024 general election approaches, this document presents a comprehensive vision for the future, focusing on sustainable development, climate action, and social equity. It’s always encouraging to see detailed plans that aim to address some of the pressing issues of our time! 🌿Uniquely, they highlight the necessity of substantial investment to cut carbon emissions across all sectors - housing, industry, agriculture, and transportation - to mitigate the severe financial and human impacts of the climate crisis🌿 Having spoken to some Environmental/Conservation organisations with similar goals, its encouraging to see progress we have made, but we can still do more 💪💚🌲 Regardless of your political views, have a look into their proposals and consider how they might impact our communities and environment 🌱♻️ #2024Election #Sustainability

As climate change risks escalate, it's crucial for cities to enhance their resilience and address systemic inequities. USGBC has developed the Equity Guide to complement the LEED v4.1 for Cities and Communities: Existing Cities rating system. This innovative tool applies an equity lens to each credit within the rating system, offering case studies, guiding context, and questions to help local governments integrate equity more effectively into their sustainability planning. By centering equity in sustainability efforts, we can ensure that every action and goal considers equitable outcomes, achieving a just distribution of resources to protect all communities from climate-related hazards. You can explore how the Equity Guide can support your city in advancing climate action rooted in equity. Let's work together to create more resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities for all! 🌍 https://bit.ly/467pu5r #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Equity #USGBC #LEED #Cities #Communities #ClimateChange #Resilience
